I saw a presentation today that pointed to problems with the costs of AI (clearly extracting resources is its goal) but reframing around this question is essential: who owns the AI dividend

There is a suit against Trump to prevent him from painting the stone-exterior Eisenhower Executive Office Building white. That structure is not much beloved but at least shows off its expensive quarried wall materials, which are low-maintenance and require only repointing and cleaning.

to be clear, it is almost never the students draining the joy in this work. even when i am frustrated with a particular student on an assignment, it is rarely about the student so much as it is what they have been trained to expect, which is not on them

i really do love reading my undergrad public history students’ final self reflective essays on how their understanding of the field and their goals has shifted throughout the semester. it is a true joy and important to remind myself about, especially when so much can drain the joy from teaching

Trump orders ‘ideology’ removed from Smithsonian. What about NC sit-ins exhibit? We fact-check a report that the Trump administration ordered pieces of the F.W. Woolworth lunch counter from Greensboro to be removed from the Smithsonian Institution.

No one in my Bluesky circle needs to hear this, but Black history is American history. The Greensboro lunch counter is a place where brave Americans defended freedom and equality against bigotry. It represents my patriotism; it is patriotic to demand and shape an America that lives up to its ideals.

frasier: what does it mean to be in intimate relationship? community engagement is the lowest level, when you are introducing yourself to community; introductions are baseline. where are you in lockstep with the community? putting yourself on the line? when they are on the front line, where are you?
