People left Friendster for MySpace and MySpace for Facebook because the sites became occasionally unreliable. Slower, occasionally a page wouldn't load. That's all it took. The idea that people are duty-bound to stay on a fucking social media platform for ANY reason is straight-up nuts.

Wouldn't the two major issues here be discoverability (especially with how bad search engines have become, not to say that's rosy on social media sites) and maintenance/security (for any application-based implementation, not so for static sites)?
