“[Writing is] largely a matter of application and hard work, or writing and rewriting endlessly until you are satisfied that you have said what you want to say as clearly and simply as possible. For me that usually means many, many revisions.”

I think it's only fair that, if the USA is going to insist on affecting all of us every single day, the rest of us should get a vote in their elections.

How Technology Re-Tribalized Us In Yanomamö villages, rules aren’t enforced by courts or police.

"The modern village offers connection and the comfort of belonging, but reneges on its promise by asking identity and politics to carry the weight of meaning, friendship, and faith—burdens they cannot bear. It offers constant contact without real companionship and then monetizes our loneliness."

For someone who lives for adoration that would not be a good thing. Tell him he's doing a wonderful job and let him fall asleep during every meeting without judgement. That's the only way to limit the damage.

X post from Iran Military Media:
It appears that a large, high-intensity, and decisive battle is imminent in the coming days. The Iranian Armed Forces have made extensive preparations for U.S. forces and the origin of the aggression.

The rules of warfare in the Strait of Hormuz are set to change. Furthermore, there is a strong likelihood that the conflict will expand to the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Pete Hegseth is working hard to make sure the public hears only good news about Iran war Americans have been able to know what troops at war are facing, and make informed decisions about the war’s cost, because a free press has been able to tell the story − good or bad. Can it still?

It’s hard for reporters to see what’s happening up close in the Iran war.

photo of a computer screen with a poem written in a word document.

sometimes i forget that men can love. it's not that i think of all of them as creatures with no redeemable qualities, but it comes as a shock to me when i hear words that leave their mouth, sugary, warm, pure:
i love how wide her smile is, and the books she tells me to read. her strength, her kindness. she makes my day better.
words that are akin to the dialogue that i believed only existed in fiction. when i hear them, i think of the descriptions used on me over the years, how they are limited and when they arrive they are primal and sad and ugly. i envy how men are applauded for feeling anything other than rage and hunger.
i envy the women who have felt their tenderness.

47 years of deep mistrust and misperception paved the way to war between Iran and the US − and complicate any negotiations The war that began Feb. 28 hews to a familiar, dangerous pattern, writes an Iran expert, from deep, historical mistrust and incompatible strategic interests to miscommunication and misperception.

The US–Iran war of 2026 is rooted in 47 years of deep mistrust.

Decades of hostile rhetoric, failed diplomacy and strategic miscalculation pushed both sides toward conflict.

It actually doesn't matter whether this war is unpopular or not if you have a party that clearly has no intention of getting re-elected through democratic means.

Trump touts a 'roaring economy' in his State of Union as Americans continue to struggle Trump said America is entering a "golden age," even as polling shows skepticism from voters on the economy and after he faced a setback on tariffs from the Supreme Court.

1/ In last night’s #SOTU address, President Trump said he inherited a stagnant economy with record inflation that he has turned around in the last year. In fact, the evidence tells a different story. www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

The White Shadow is a kind of forgotten, underrated precursor to later MTM "realistic" shows like Hill Street Blues & St. Elsewhere (the character of Warren from Shadow was a character on Elsewhere too). Good stuff, is it streaming anywhere?
