Sonic grins as the hedgehog hesitantly takes a seat beside him.
“ Hey, I might not be dark and brooding, but I still know how to take in the view. ”
He chuckled, before he tilted his head.
“ You talk like ya know me. Should I recognise you? I don't think I'd forget those red streaks. ”
“ Never even realised there are that many rules on the internet! ”
Sonic leaned back, glancing over at the new figure who appeared.
“ Whoa, didn't see you there. Smooth moves. ”
He smiled, shifting over for him to join.
“Well, y'know, running around is my thing, but I like to keep it chill sometimes. Why, you lookin' for some trouble? ”
Sonic sat at the top of a large marquee in the street, his legs dangling in front of the advertisement for a concert. He looked down at the people hustling and bustling about. He let out a whistle.
“ Big world. ”

First, welcome! Second, there's a lot to cover in the past 33 years of Sonic stuff! I think a good way to learn about the Sonic cast is through Sonic X or IDW, which are pretty new-fan-friendly.
That aside, people are usually happy to talk about their muse. It's their muse, after all.
“ Right, right. ”
He took up another stone, looking out at the water.
“ Alright Sir Self-Proclaimed Softy, let's see you skip. Loser pays for lunch! ”
He tossed, the stone skipping a solid seven or so times across the river.
Sonic picked up another stone, meeting the moody hedgehog with a smirk.
“ Why? 'Cause it's fun. ”
He held the stone, putting it on offer.
“ You oughta try it! Might help soften that edge you're carryin' around. ”

He tossed a stone, watching it skip across the river, letting out a pleased whistle as it finally sunk with a 'plonk'.
“ Heh! Still got it. ”
“ Makes sense to me! Lots of tourists and a sweet archeological site, gotta make it easy to access. ”
“ Hm. Guess not! But the Mystic Ruins are way closer to Station Square and Central City than Future City is. ”
“ Isn't it weird that we have a metro line straight to Future City? ”
He's wandering the aisles of a local book store at Station Square, occasionally taking out a book and reading through a random selection of pages.
Frigid air, up in Holoska. Sonic walked along, ruffling his fur in the cold.
“ Weird client. In a cool way. ”
There's a grim energy coming from this package. He didn't like the way it felt. But nevertheless, in the bag it goes.
“ Alright! I've got it for sure, this time! ”
Once again, Sonic goes to war with his portable stove, hoping to make something nice.
Sonic took in a slow breath, taking in the sight of the small village up ahead.
“ I get that, but where do I come in? It would make more sense to talk to someone a bit more in-the-know about all that robot stuff, right? ”
As their fists collided, Sonic let out a faint "Ayy!", before he turned his eyes back to the water. His expression relaxed as he settled in.
“ Not much of a traveller? Chun-nan's out west of here, big ol' continent. I'm surprised you haven't heard of it! ”
Sonic nodded, giving the bot a pat on the head.
“ Hey, I'm sure you two will figure it out eventually. ”
He offered his usual smile, brought back up from its simmer.
“ So, you mentioned you need me to help you out? ”
Sonic's smile simmers. He recognised the conflict in Metts' voice. He resettled his bag over his shoulder as he kept pace with the robot.
“ You think he's worried about you? ”
Sonic met his laboured throw with a faint whistle, casually impressed with the man's strength.
“ Name's Sonic. ”
He said in response, offering out a fist to bump.
“ Cool rod, looks like the kind you see in Chun-nan. ”
Sonic senses the stranger approach. He watched as he set up the pole and took a seat. Sonic nodded amicably.
“ Sure thing. Good weather for it, eh? ”
Sonic paused. In his world, there's another Sonic? Right.
He thought for a moment, before he let out a sigh.
“ Well. If you ask me, that sounds like a pretty normal parent-child relationship. ”
He began walking, gesturing for Metts to follow.
“ Gotta be yourself, eventually. Just how it is. ”

It occurs to me that Sonic never really meets a lot of his friends without Eggman to kick off the adventure.
