5) some time away, quite often in my experience I find they’re not nearly as bad as I felt they were at the time of writing.

I really hope one or both of those help. And if nothing else, enjoy the process of creating the story. There will 100% be tough patches, but you can do it 😊

4) anything else. Just get it down, get it written. Once you have a working first draft, then you can go back and refine things for as long as you want, to whatever stylistic or plot specifications you feel it needs. Plus, a lot of the time when you go back and look at the tough patches after…

3) is the one I’d print out and stick to my wall. Heck I’d frame it. And that is ‘perfect is the enemy of done’. You can always edit work that’s written in first draft, but you can’t refine work that doesn’t exist. Write what you want to write, do not worry in first draft if it looks too AI or…

2) before they start writing, and then try to stick to them. The latter write ‘organically’, letting the plot develop as they go. If you’ve been stalling out after chapter one then whichever of these you HAVEN’T been doing, it’s worth giving it a try to see if it helps.

The second piece of advice

1) Ok so this might help with that I guess? Two parts to it really and you may well have heard both before, but they always help me out.

First one is to find out if, broadly speaking, you are some kind of Planner or some kind of Pantser. The former (I’m in this category) write extensive plans…

I have some advice that might be helpful to you with that, if you’d like it, but I wouldn’t inflict it unsolicited 🙂 happy to offer it if it’d help though

As someone who stood on more than one old style plastic goblin spearman, I can confirm they definitely do physical damage, so I guess why not psychic too? 😂

Another 5k written today and ALMOST finished act 2 of 3. Ran out of steam before finishing a big scene though and didn’t want to do a poor job of it, so that’ll be the next writing sesh.

Oh if you like birdwatching it’s the spot for it - my wife has the Merlin app and some binocs and she had a LOVELY time.

There’s a couple of Nat trust holiday cottages right next to their visitor centre there, pretty reasonably priced and really cozy, so we stayed in one of those

It was something else, got to say 😊 peaceful as you like, and the wildlife was amazing! Owls, cranes, muntjac deer (including fawns which btw are unreasonably small and brilliant) - cannot recommend enough for de-stressing

Just had a lovely week down there in one of your holiday cottages, it’s an absolutely fantastic spot, so much wildlife!

Whilst my Warhammer 40K novella, Paragon Of Faith was released last July and came out in hardcover, ebook and audiobook, it hasn’t been available in paperback – until now!

Available from pre-order today, the paperbacks will be released on 18th April 2026.

The kids that got stuck in the Jumanji game were so lucky they didn’t get dragged into anything Dark Souls related. 3 lives would not have lasted anyone long…

Had a couple of weeks off the novel after handing in the halfway doc. Got back on it today and smashed out a 6k wordcount. That’ll do!
