Reparations are absolutely essential and not only as an apology (to people, to history) for slavery, but also to replace the support systems and generational wealth that was stolen, prevented from forming. I think the "not my fault" crowd does not appreciate how much they've received from ancestors.

I hear you. A nuanced text review is always the better bet, but the system loves numbers ☹️. Some of the big review sites and awards/competitions use a report card style system, but even that is ultimately subjective. "Cover art: B-" is still just one reviewer's opinion.

I only ever rate if something is 4 or 5 stars because, from an algorithm perspective, anything 3 stars or lower will negatively impact views and sales. If a book is racist trash, here comes the 1 star, but if it just didn't do anything for me, I leave it be. Plenty of super popular books like that.
