Already wrote a lot, sorry. Just wanted to say that this feature applies a restriction, not a suggestion. Avatars of restricted performances will not be viewable to others (unless the bypass-restriction permission is used)

I don't know how often it would be that someone unknowingly uses a restricted avatar. The dev update makes me think that the notification will be easily visible.

But to answer your question, yes, I think it could. If people only saw me as an imposter/fallback, our interactions would be different

There are tradeoffs.. better performing avatars means that more people can see each other.

But restricting avatars affects how people decide to express themselves and interact with others. For example, only one of my 10+ outfits for my avatar can easily be optimized to Poor rank.

It does seem useful for groups that are already restricting avatar performance at events manually. Though, I think that some of these groups should just let people configure their own performance settings, instead of restricting everyone

If the avatar doesn't meet the instance restrictions (and the person doesn't have the new bypass-restriction permission), then the only person who will be able to see it will be the person using it.

"you are not allowed to override the instance level restrictions to make other’s appear, even if you force-show their avatar or are friends"

So no 🥴 Even if you want to see their avatar, you & everyone else will only see their imposter/fallback until they change it
