I give up
How are you supposed to know if they are illegal or not?
Posts by Richard Beasley
I think, in fairness that is not quite fair
He has, in a bigger but similar way to others, started believing his own publicity, myth and hence infallibility
Which is probably biggest mistake leader of anything can do
I don’t actually care what party
Torching of am is elected governor’s house (when occupied) for presumably some political reason is unacceptable regardless of the political party
But you don’t starve / spend all your time growing your own food!
Point on tariffs
On goods it’s not so much where parts are made, or things assembled
It’s where profits are
Eg Jaguar cars have parts made everywhere, assembled in Uk, but the profit goes to Tata, an Indian company.
These companies are actually ‘pan-national’, or think they are above any government
What have we had to concede to get even that?
Cut in the ‘digital services tax’ for a beginning
A reduction in standards so we get awful US food?
What else?
The sort of sign I like on a pub!
Exactly
All new build should be built aligned to sun direction, and include solar panels and heat pumps, and meet energy efficiency standards
It’s so obvious
Amol Rajan obviously being given stupid line to push
‘Energy bills going up because oil / gas going up and we are still dependent on them’
[so we need to invest in non oil/ gas energy infrastructure]
AR ‘but the prices are going up so this policy not working’
Aaarghhhh
Back in July 22 I was lucky to go to a conference in Detroit
After, I visited the Detroit Institute of Arts
Being ignorantly, I had never heard of Diego Rivera’s murals, so when I saw them there I was blown away by scale and vibrancy
Finally (!) done the jigsaw I bought
Perils of a relaxing live
Lots of stiff muscles so I took a relaxing hot bath
Lovely
Very soothing and relaxing
Fell asleep
Woke up in freezing cold water and it took about three hours to warm up
For the cat lovers. (In Ankara)
Good
The unfairness of Trump is everyone feels the negative impact
I think the suggestion is you take it up with your congressman and senators and insist Trump’s lunacy is controlled
Obviously no one want innocents to suffer. If only the effects of Trump could be restricted to those who voted for him!
So here I am in Turkey
Two days of workshops on systems engineering - we’ll see how it goes. First professional gig of this type (what I expected to do£ since ‘retiring’
Hope I get to see a bit of Ankara as well - more than view from hotel
The trouble with planning travel ;airlines with connections) with reasonable allowance for delays etc is that you end up hanging around in terminals for ages - including time waiting for ‘gate information’
Did have to do passport (6 minute queue) and baggage inspection again (no queue)
Made it to the next gate. Waiting to board transfer flight to Ankara
Whilst waiting I’ve realised this is the 20th country (outside UK) I’ve been to in my life
Hopefully each one broadened me a bit
It says I have to do passport here, but the hold baggage goes through automatically
Racing to terminal now, and next slight says boarding in 2hours.
Optimistic at the moment
Travelling to Turkey
Got to airport early (allowed for a bus delay, but it was early
Never been to Turkey before - transferring in Istanbul to go on to Ankara - don’t know how the transfer will work
Then two days running done Systens engineering workshops
Hopefully I’ll see a bit of Ankara as well
I heard it on the radio
Quite the worst thing I have ever heard.
I cannot see any way out of this
The world is doomed
U fortunately we’ve got 47 more months of this to go
Aren’t they wanted for crimes in Uk
How much would we upset US if we asked for extradition? Would we have the nerve?
The fact these people are a debate and not just behind bars already sickens me

Latest books read
‘Crack down’ by McDermid, early book i like, not so ‘hyper evil’ criminals - like / better than Sara Paresky
‘Girl in blue’ by Wodehouse - late career (70s). Funny but not prime. 2nd hand shop had a pile of less common Wodehouse books
Been busy so needed light reading

Just finished ‘Armour of light’ by Ken Follett
Continuation of his history of England through the history of fictional Kingsbridge
The original ‘Pillars of the Earth’ is one of my favourite ever books
Here it’s Napaleonic wars and industrialisation of textiles
Interesting
There’s a strange orange thing in the sky that’s quite bright
The sky has changed colour - definetlybdone other colour than grey
Is the world ending?

‘Money For Nothing’ by PG Wodehouse
Diverting, funny in parts but (and for Wodehouse a real crime) felt a bit heavy handed in places
Orbital by Samantha Harvey
Triggered thoughts (on parental death and separately perspective) I was underwhelmed. No plot!! Creative writing exercise??
This merging of refugees with migrants is total pandering to the racist right
If a refugee successfully applied for asylum there MUST be a route to citizenship
If they want to stop ‘illegal’ entry then provide safe routes. A ‘refugee travel visa’ would be easy - right to enter to immediately apply
For some balance (why?? I know ) Obama did let the Russians away with sizing Crimea (admittedly there wasn’t horrific fighting and slaughter to do it)
To undo the balance - this is crazy ‘might us right’ talk and makes the world more dangerous
