i feel compelled to remind everyone that chatgpt/LLMs are functionally the *opposite* of an actual expert.

the more your problems are unusual or novel, the more likely LLMS are to be wrong. they are least helpful when it's most important

A 3hr class is a new level of self loathing for hearing your own voice.

Gone are the days of waking up early to run before a conference talk, staying out until midnight with FOMO after the last talk. Glad for conferences that fill my science cup, but also glad to be going home to a squishy baby who thinks mom is an android in the baby monitor waking her up.

Candy review: nerd gummy clusters are good on a long run, but they're so small you have to eat a LOT to replace 'normal' running fuel and that's almost not worth the hassle. Do they make large nerd gummy clusters that hit somewhere between the halloween size and a rope?

For the first time in all of my 18 years living out of my parents' house, I will have a sibling live within 15 minutes of my house (!!!).

My brother came to the sibling wedding this last weekend with a full mullet and i've never been more proud of how committed he was to the bit. His whole outfit was the mullet theme: pearl snap western shirt, almost bolo tie, just chef's kiss.

our songs are "soft kitty" from big bang theory, the axolotl song, and "I'm so blue" from veggie tales. Nursery rhymes of this generation will be so weird.

I didn't realize how canon it was to email your professor as soon as grades are submitted to ask for extra credit.

After a weirdly hostile meeting (weird because I thought that was like...unprofessional and didn't happen these days), my students made my day with their weather observation assignment on yesterday's landspout and lightning. They're finally seeing all the things we talk about in class.

Today I share my 5-year PhD Defense-aversary with my child's 1st birthday. She did try to steal my thunder, but there's enough lightning puns to go around.

I'm feeling especially nostalgic this time of year - one year ago we were driving to the eclipse and was about to eject our 3rd family member.

While I can't shop for a house based solely on holes in our slow antenna network, I can and did ask for upgraded grounding in the repair amendment. I'd like to think our realtor passed on the fact that I work in lightning physics, but in reality the seller likely wanted to give a quick yes.
