“Hubert had lucked out, with his ghost form. Some souls manifested as black dogs or cold patches; some were perceived as a glow or a shadow in a mirror. Hubert showed up in photographs as … hair. He took this as a sign that god had a sense of humour. The bastard.”
A starfield filled with thousands of stars and shining clouds of dust. The Milky Way\u2019s elegant spiral structure is dominated by just two arms wrapping off the ends of a central bar of stars. Spanning more than 100,000 light-years, Earth is located along one of the galaxy\u2019s spiral arms, about halfway from the center. Credit: NASA
OH. MY. GOD.
THIS IS THE MILKY WAY SHOT BY THE ARTEMIS II CREW. LOOK AT ALL THOSE STARS!!!!
books: the rectangle that can’t send you push notifications. Try: books.
I've seen people trying to defend it today by saying "No, no, I just use it to brainstorm, bounce ideas, I do the actual writing" and with all the kindness in the world I need to tell you: if there is a stage of writing you are not good at, you need to get good, not use the plagiarism machine.
Photograph of a car with a squirrel inside of it, perched on the steering wheel. The car is the color of champaign at a beige convention, and the squirrel is the color of squirrels. The squirrel is holding a package of crackers in it's mouth. They are the kind like you get at a restaurant, where you get two crackers wrapped in plastic. The driver's side window is slightly cracked. This is how the squirrel got in, and how it got out. It threw the crackers out first, and then climbed out after them. Everything in this operation suggested that this was not the squirrel's first rodeo.
A closeup of the squirrel sitting on the steering wheel. The squirrel deserves a name, so we'll call her Anjeloma, and she's what you might call a winner. She is still squirrel colored. The crackers are white, and labeled "Zest." As if Anjeloma needed more zest. Squirrel, please. You can't see much of the car, but you can see smudges of grunge at the edges of the windshield, where the wipers have cast aside the debris of previous rains and pollen-falls.
The world is stupid, but I just watched a squirrel break into a car in the parking lot below me, steal a package of crackers, and escape to a nearby tree. So at least somebody is winning.
Don’t forget entitlement and systems going unexamined. Your books never have anything to say about those.
She’s so beautiful in her dirt nap lol

You’d think it was a scammer and delete it. These mistakes matter.
WhatsApp’s AI just generously offered to summarise my friend’s one (1) new message that she sent me, which was “yes!” and honestly this is just so dumb on so many levels

To anyone submitting an Anthropic claim: I filled mine out weeks ago on their terrible site. It took an hour and a half. I submitted it, but just got a notice saying I haven't. EVERYBODY CHECK! Check that yours is really in!

two cartoon figures are chained to a wall on which a wheel of samsara is overlaid. one looks dejected, while the other guy, in a suit and sunglasses is beaming, and says: "Bro, if you just hustle more, you can be bound by these gold chains instead."
Image is an inclusive pride flag with text over it saying "American Library Association's Rainbow Round Table 2026 Rainbow Book List" with the cover and a description of the book Prince of Fortune by Lisa Tirreno. The smaller text describing the book says "Chapter Book, Fiction - Romance, Ages 14+ Tirreno, Lisa. Prince of Fortune. 2024. 416p. Atheneum Books for Young Readers/Simon & Schuster. $19.99. (9781665957786). Seen to become a great king, shy Prince Edmund bears the weight of prophecy, rare magic, and an expected political marriage. But when he meets Aubrey Ainsley, a charming, politically insignificant Seer, everything changes. As their bond deepens, Aubrey's visions of war turn frighteningly real, and dark sorcery threatens the nation of Saben. To save their homeland and each other, Edmund and Aubrey must defy fate, resist forces bent on tearing them apart, and claim a future shaped by love rather than prophecy."
Prince of Fortune made the 2026 ALA rainbow book list, which is lovely ☺️
(This news is very late, I kept forgetting to post this on here lol)
The future is such nonsense
I’m so excited to find out this is in the works, I absolutely loved his last book 🎉🎉🎉

"We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable — but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words."
