Yet another interesting read (it's been one of those mornings):
A French take on Ireland's historic neutrality, by @lemonde.fr (with some Anglo-Irish history the UK should teach better).
The conclusion seems a little ... left field, though.

This makes for a good read, too.

Read this, now, and can second - it's really very thoughtful and interesting.
(To be clear, interesting in the "this is holding my attention" kind of way, not a "this person has been licking frogs" way.)
🙏
receive our morning prayers
That's proper interesting.
Is that based on the assumption that First Impressions do tend to stick?
Screenshot from Mastodon, white text on black background: Erik Uden @ErikUden@mastodon.de Once libraries are nonexistent any modern fascist movement wouldn't even have to burn books, but flick one switch and they'd be remotely deleted from your Amazon Kindle or similar digital "library". Capitalists are already building the infrastructure to do this through DRM, so stop believing tech is apolitical - the defunding of libraries and paywalling of information are all part of this.
A reminder during #NationalLibraryWeek, libraries are our best and last defense against the fascist monopoly on knowledge and information
People don't ask, though. They just assume.
Finlandia, natch.
I'm really hoping to die during Easter.
My kids have said if I die in lent they'll put me on ice until Easter 🤭😊.
I think a lot of it is the cost. People are trying to shield their kith and kin from a big bill, but we largely have forgotten the cost of skipping catharsis.
Dudes. As a society we taught young women to walk with keys between their fingers in dark parking lots and to carry pepper spray in their purse.
So yes. I’m asking you to be responsible for the actions of other men. After all, that’s what you’ve asked of women for centuries.
It’s your turn.
Thank you. It's just ... well ... that last few yards, you know?
No, it's all a bit ... I suspect the rhythm got thrown by ABC's shindig, and so I think things keep getting stuck between offices.
Trying to be patient (but my unemployment benefit runs out soon so ⌛).
BUT definitely meeting my new church wardens tomorrow, which is exciting (with shades of, but if they see me without interview stabilisers, will they still like me??? 😬)
👀
Sort of...
Make it make sense.
Ye-es...
He was elected pope in the Catholic Church's last non-conclave papal election, ending a two-year impasse. Among the few edicts of his to remain in force is the confirmation of the right of the pope to abdicate; nearly all of his other official acts were annulled by his successor, Boniface VIII. On 13 December 1294, a week after issuing the decree, Celestine resigned, stating his desire to return to his humble, pre-papal life. He was subsequently imprisoned by Boniface in the castle of Fumone in the Lazio region, in order to prevent his potential installation as antipope. He died in prison on 19 May 1296. Celestine was canonized on 5 May 1313 by Pope Clement V. No subsequent pope has taken the name Celestine.
Can I introduce you to Celestine?
Licensing date/place/time confirmed 💫

NICHOLAS OF VERDUN The Birth of Isaac (detail), from the Verdun Altar, c.1181, Champlevé enamel, St. Leopold’s Chapel, Stift Klosterneuberg; Peter Böttcher, IMAREAL, Universität Salzburg
When Nicholas of Verdun represented the birth of Isaac in the monumental twelfth-century Verdun Altar, he re-imagined laughter as a blessing, the sign of God’s fidelity to his covenant.

Is it "and" because cities are an efficient, relatively low resource set up for people, or something else?
Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?
One of the reasons I'm here for @greenparty.org.uk is that they were the only party quoted this morning as saying Reform's nonsense is not only stupid it's cruel.
These are people we're talking about, not chess pieces.
