Medical research gives us hope. It leads to better diagnostics, more effective treatments, and ultimately, less suffering. Every dollar raised helps us move closer to breakthroughs that can change lives. ๐งช
I know this firsthand, not just as a scientist, but as a mum. My child lives with disabilities, and Iโm very aware the impact these conditions have on families. The uncertainty, the constant medical appointments, and the hope for a better future. This is why I run and why I'm fundraising. ๐งฌ
The research at CMRI, like mine, is to help the 1 in 20 children that are born with a birth defect or genetic disease. These arenโt just numbers โ theyโre real kids, real families. ๐
At CMRI, I study chromatin biology and genome stability โ that is, I want to understand how the 3D structure of our DNA protects its integrity. When DNA integrity is lost and damage persists in the DNA, this is a major driving force disease development particularly for cancer.
This August, Iโm running the City2Surf โ not just for the challenge of completing the hilly 14 kilometres, but to raise funds for the Children's Medical Research Institute @cmri.bsky.social, where I also work as a scientist ๐
