1. Today, the Trump administration's HHS Dept., under RFK Jr., released a review of transgender healthcare.
It has no authors. It pushes pseudoscience and conversion therapy. It does not follow a scientific process.
My fact check of the Trump HHS review.

A massive study of 50,000 households over 1,000 archaeological sites provides ample evidence that inequality is not a "natural" outgrowth of sophistication. Instead, it is a political choice. Which means, kids, that we don't have to choose it.

This survey is an incredible resource. Please take 20-30 minutes out of your day to take it! Also recruiting people with chronic illness.
ASAN’s Executive Director Colin Killick went on ABC News Live today to discuss how RFK Jr.’s comments about autism impact the autistic community. abcnews.go.com/US/video/aut...
I found this AMAZING resource that I think some of y'all might also be interested in. It's a world map that demonstrates that gender-diverse people have always been here and, in fact, have always been everywhere.

I've already had two federal grants terminated and face a 33% pay cut due to future terminations. It's painful, but not as painful as the conversations I'm having every day with brilliant trainees in graduate school and postdoctoral positions who see little future for themselves in US science.
Oh wow! Thank you!
Oh my gosh, thank you. This is so helpful. I was 100% thinking of UDL in conjunction with accommodations! I was just thinking about how hard it can be to get accommodations and UDL was appealing because it'd help out students who are unable to get accommodations formally. Thank you again! <3
Showing the accessibility settings for alt text in bluesky with two options: Require alt text before posting Display larger alt text badges Both are checked
As Bluesky has grown, I've seen a lot of backsliding on alt text. Please try to be considerate to others and include alt text with all of your images. It helps everyone. Indeed, in the "accessibility" setting in Bluesky you can set it to make sure you add alt text, which is a useful thing to do.
Does anyone have any hot takes on Universal Design for Learning/Instruction? I found a great article critical of UD, & I'm curious to hear others' thoughts

There’s a long history of the US using bogus “disorders” to harm and control people. The most egregious example: “drapetomania,” named by Dr. Samuel Cartwright in 1851. This was a “disorder” only enslaved people had, he claimed, a form of insanity that made them want to run away from slavery.
Please consider participating in or sharing my arts-based study on the involuntary psychiatric hospitalization experiences of queer and trans folks! Participants will create artwork, participate in a virtual interview, and be compensated $50.

I searched Social Services Abstracts and SocIndex for "sanism" AND "social work" with absolutely no other limitations and found 22 unique results, which seems... low

I made this edit of a photograph of Paulo Freire, and I thought y'all might appreciate it
thank you to everyone adding ALT text to your images. It ensures that your posts are #accessible.
Bluesky has a setting that will remind you to include text when you're posting an image. Go to Settings / Accessibility, and check the box next to "Require alt text before posting."
But I live in Arizona and have never had to deal with daylight savings time, so maybe this analogy makes no sense
I recently read this article by @ehlastigirl.bsky.social that talks about crip time as time travel which led me to think that disabled academics are constantly time-traveling between "academic standard time" and "crip daylight time," suffering from jet lag in the process

Haha, yes, I'm still getting used to Bluesky!
Haha, woof, thank you! I saw your reply after I had made my own post! Sorry!
I recently learned about pod mapping, and I'm such a huge fan
This looks like a great conference! Call for abstracts is out, deadline is 28th February.

Hi! I've been gone for a bit! I traveled over my winter break, but I am now back at my desk working on my scoping review, which I finally realized doesn't have to be perfect.
Following people on social media who live what you're treating/researching is a great start to learning what it's really like, how you may be hurting the people you want to help, & how to actually help! Message me if you want recommendations! I feel weird tagging people & many aren't on bsky.
If your only experience with the people you're working with is in your role as a social worker, you're getting an incomplete picture.
Social media is a great way that social workers can learn from the people we're trying to help, and I think this is so important when you don't have lived experience of your research/practice focus, whether that's carrying a mental health diagnosis, being unhoused, etc.
I sometimes feel silly talking about it in class but the people I follow on social media have taught me so, so much that has helped me grow as a person and as a social worker.🧵(1/4)
I've been harmed by psychiatric medication. I've also been helped by it.
I've been harmed by psychiatric diagnosis. I've also been helped by it.
All these things can be true at the same time.
There is space for people to share nuanced experiences of psychiatry.
I’m looking for academic researchers who research mental health and also (like me) have lived experience of mental ill health! Please share and get in touch if that’s you ❤️#academicsky @academic-chatter.bsky.social @mhrincubator.bsky.social @nihrspcr.bsky.social
