Any donation from 22nd-29th April will go to community groups in the Trent, Dove and Derwent. Donations will equip three communities with the skills and kit to survey their stretch of river for a year.
Save the date, every difference will be doubled 🤝

Three days until Big Give 💚
Without the tireless monitoring from community groups, river health would not be this high on the agenda. To help our struggling rivers, it's vital we keep building insights, detect pollution and monitor river health.
After the film, we'll host a discussion on river health and will fundraise for local river-loving groups.
As part of the Big Give Week starting on 22nd April, any donation will be doubled. Donations will equip groups with river monitoring kit and support for 12 months.

Enforcement Undertakings - What are they and how are they used?
We put together a quick guide describing what they are and how we're using them to improve river health following a pollution incident.
‼️💩 Last week’s annual sewage summary showed fewer and shorter discharges in England and Wales than in 2024, but that’s likely due to dry weather, not real progress.
Our experts reviewed the data to see if investigations are happening and leading to meaningful fixes.

It delves into meaningful ways to raise awareness of the plight of our rivers - but not without losing sight of the joy that inspired them to protect their river in the first place.
Save the date for there's something exciting coming to your local cinema 👀
26th April at 12:00 pm we're hosting a screening of Rave On for the Avon at Broadway Cinema in Nottingham.
This award-winning documentary celebrates the people who are standing up for their local river.
We're continuing our series: The Long View.
On the left, we rewiggled a straightened watercourse. This slows the flow of water coming from the surrounding hills.
On the right, we're revisiting over a year later to see the watercourse embedded into the landscape - like it should.
Excellent and good luck with it!
Incredible news from Derbyshire: an Atlantic salmon has been found in the Bottle Brook for the first time on record! The juvenile fish was found by @trentriverstrust.bsky.social during a survey 🐟 The UK’s Atlantic salmon have been declining for decades, and were declared endangered in 2023.
Did you catch us on the news?
We've been celebrating this complete surprise catch in the Derwent and are calling to conserve Atlantic salmon here in the Midlands.

While salmon is in decline in well-known salmon rivers, this surprise catch in this Derwent tributary suggests they might be recovering in less comprehensively monitored salmon rivers.
Get the details on this historic catch on our website 👇

Is salmon more widespread in the Derbyshire Derwent than previously thought?
Last week's catch on the Bottle Brook suggests that this is very much the case ❗️
Meet the team 💙
Can you help us and our fantastic lead volunteer, Jan, free the Mease from the choke of Himalayan balsam?
Join us for weekly sessions as training and equipment will be provided.

Thank you so much for being part of this initiative!
🌳This week we planted native #BlackPoplar at Vicar Water Country Park in #Nottinghamshire. They offered a place for 8 saplings which will hopefully grow, so that we can take further cuttings and distribute the tree across the county!🌳

If you haven't watched it already, this 20-minute documentary uncovers how we're restoring this river, one conversation, one project at a time.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_SO...
A few years ago, we produced a film about our restoration efforts on the River Mease.
The Mease, like many other rivers, flows through a landscape in which progress moves at the speed of trust, carefully built through consideration, collaboration and compromise.
In the spirit of “you can’t step into the same river twice”, we’re launching Long View: a new series tracking how the rivers we restored change over time.
First up: the River Mease near Edingale—where bank lowering created habitat and space for water.
Have a scroll to see the change 💙
Bringing back burbot means bringing back a free-flowing river that is more resilient to drought flood, pollution and extreme temperatures. It means getting it right for the Trent and the species that once called it home.
We've written more about our plans for burbot in the Trent on our blog.
Bringing back species means that restoration and reintroduction need to go hand in hand. In the case of the burbot, it means bringing back a river that is connected to its floodplain, has deep, cool pools of water and allows this freshwater cod to move through vast stretches of river.
Habitat becomes fragmented, conditions, for example, water quality or water temperature, worsen, and eventually, it is not just the species that is lost, but the river and catchment that can support it.
Have we lost sight of what a healthy river looks like?
It is a question we're asking ourselves when looking at the species lost in the Trent and beyond. To lose a species means to lose the conditions that could support its survival. In many cases, it is an unravelling that happens over time.
Huge thanks to the team at Dreamy Cow for making space for nature and water on their land.
From small islands, gravel deposits, sediments settling out and, simply, the lively noises the watercourse, replacing two ditches, now makes! This is a site where we'd expect to uncover something new every time we visit.
