Some of those very same courts will move quickly to stop a President AOC or Newsom. But, yes, they are going to slow play any GOP president until it is too late.

Because this Supreme Court will rule it unconstitutional if Democrats attempt any of that. They have an Only-Repblicans-Can-Do-Things legal rule, so unless there is court reform - it won't work

It really feels like this industry is going to take it's biggest hit ever this year, I hope I'm wrong

We sued him for taking bribes through his hotel in the first time, and they argued that promoting his own hotel was part of his official duties, so I unfortunately have some familiarity with this

Would be nice, but nope. Nixon v. Fitzgerald case says Pres. is immune civilly from anything based on his “official acts”, and this SupCt would certainly say shitposting is among his official acts - presidential statements.

Yes, for the places just advertising specials and happy hours, makes sense, I mean all of us talking about them

Guilty. Celebrated my 40th at Pilar. But why doesn’t dc restaurant twitter just all move here? What is the appeal there, just numbers inflated by bots?

Yeah, can't say I've seen a restaurant react like this before, not usually something they want to draw attention to

You want really crazy, try here in DC where the elected AG can't prosecute crimes, and only the Trump appointed US Attorney is in control

1 year ago 2 0 0 0

The issue here is that the AG in Wisconsin went to civil court because that is his basic jurisdiction - civil claims. It would be up to the District Attorney to prosecute it as a crime, and the DA with jurisdiction here looks to be a Republican - so you know how that goes

Thank you.

The DOJ "respectfully notifies" the Judge that they are defying the Court's Order. Wonder if that will make it ok?

Yes!

Correct. With Congress unwilling to impeach, and higher Courts giving immunity from prosecution, it's more of a suggestion. At least that's how things seem to work now.

I give detailed quotes in this article by @jessicasidman.bsky.social about how political discrimination is already illegal in DC and a US Senator who may not be able to read used it as a basis to call for a ban on political discrimination
