I would be totally up for this!

It's been quite a while, but I've got a new #chess post up over at Lichess! This time I'm talking about a recent paper that investigates whether or not the time players spend thinking about their next move actually reflects the value of spending more time on the position. Enjoy!
Yes, the curation part is the conversation I think it would be good to have with a group. When you say it's easy, do you mean using Claude or just in general? Besides my own limited interface design abilities, I think it's esp. hard to make a tool that students get insights from.
Don't worry - I didn't think you meant me specifically! Yeah, I'm still trying to learn more about how coding is changing and what tools are worth adopting. What I want to understand better is how much using Claude for something like this leads to code you can edit and adapt.
I do think it would be great for a lot of #visionscience folks to meet up (maybe at VSS, or virtually for those who aren't attending) to come up with a list of stuff like this we wish we had. I'd also be up for trying to scare up some funding to hire someone to make a bunch of them!
Full disclosure: I have very high levels of AI-skepticism and have been trying to avoid it as much as possible. That said, I do see the value in creating interactive tools like this and an open-source book would be fantastic. Happy to talk more!
It's well worth it! If you stop in for one of the Classics (or other series) you can hear the Wurlitzer before the show, too.
Classic movie night at the Fargo Theatre and our feature was NETWORK. The best parts of the movie (esp. Ned Beatty's amazing monologue!) are still wonderfully unhinged even if the last 20 minutes are a bit of a race to get the script out of the corner it's painted itself into.
This was a great event last night and the kiddo also got to meet Peter Stormare in a small group on Monday. He was so much fun during the Q&A and FARGO is still fantastic 30 years later. #MovieSky #FilmSky
The kiddo has a piece out today in our local indie paper about FARGO, which screens tonight (with special guest Peter Stormare) at the Fargo Theatre as part of their Centennial Classics series. Check it out! #movies #coenbrothers #FilmSky #movieSky
Another YT Short with an analog #visionscience demo - this time it's Akiyoshi Kitaoka's wiggly version of the Footsteps illusion! Lots of fun making the paper-and-tape version of this one look it's best (at least w/ my skill set) on camera. Enjoy! youtube.com/shorts/1af1r...
More #horrormovies writing from the kiddo! This time she's taking on the zombie lore established by the eternal classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Check it out (and subscribe to her newsletter!) for more excellent perspectives on #film and #popculture. 🧠🧟♂️🧟♀️
This is great! Incredible attention to detailing all kinds of neat optical distortions you'd get from a submerged POV. #visionscience
Name an incentive (I am esp. good at choosing good graphic novel with a little info about fave media) and I will put this up as bounty for a submitted ms.
bruh
Kiddo's junior prom is tonight and today was also an open walkthrough for families to visit her elementary school before it's torn down this summer. The Horace-Mann library was a favorite spot for K-2nd grade Blaise, so we thought it was a fun place for some pre-dance photos! 💃📚
Quick #visionscience YT short to demonstrate some neon color-spreading effects. Enjoy! #science #psychology
an easel with a geometric pattern drawn on a piece of sketch paper, highlighers, and crayons generally strewn about nearby.
Content-creation day, which meant way too many takes of drawing neon color-spreading patterns on my easel and basically flinging markers and crayons around. Video forthcoming, though! #visionscience
Nice coverage of NDSU's Student Research Days in our local paper! Also: my streak of Fargo media appearances continues - at least they caught me somewhat dressed up this time. www.inforum.com/news/fargo/n...
I demand pics of the small bear hiding behind a tree. If you're tracking it with a drone already surely some wildlife photography ain't too much to ask. 🐻 www.inforum.com/news/fargo/p...
Swappable panels for the mortarboards so you can coordinate with other graduates to tell a story would be awesome!
When the Gestalt cues are just messing with you now. #visionscience
I would be honored to co-author a submission describing this important artifact. DM if interested!
I keep getting these pushy emails asking me to submit to the Journal of Rock Art. It's apparently about paleolithic drawings but if I get spammed with this one more time I'ma submit a 10-page paper about this bad boy.
Earthset captured through the Orion spacecraft window at 6:41 p.m. EDT, April 6, 2026, during the Artemis II crew’s flyby of the Moon. A muted blue Earth with bright white clouds sets behind the cratered lunar surface. The dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime. On Earth’s day side, swirling clouds are visible over the Australia and Oceania region. In the foreground, Ohm crater has terraced edges and a flat floor interrupted by central peaks. Central peaks form in complex craters when the lunar surface, liquefied on impact, splashes upwards during the crater’s formation. [alt text from NASA]
#Artemis II lunar flyby images are showing up! 😍
A crescent Earth setting behind the Moon.
Thanks!
This is such a great and weird picture. I don't think you could ask for a bigger depth-compression effect! #visionscience
I was telling kiddo about this book the other day - I've been thinking a lot lately about the crises of authenticity described here and in "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"
This put a huge smile on my face this morning...thanks for sharing and following to see more of your work!
