More from #DoctorWho’s #LostStories - #TheFragileYellowArcOfFragrance
Posts by CHRIS (VERITASERUMUK)
- It does drag in some areas, so may have been better if it had been slightly shorter.
All in all, however, it’s a great lost story and one that I plan to revisit one day. At nearly 3 hours, my only advice is to not listen to it all at once.
Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This just leaves a few negatives:
- William and Carole, although great, are simply not the Doctor or Barbara, so much so that it does take you out of the story somewhat. For this, I feel that a full-cast audio may have worked better.
- Both #WilliamRussell and #CaroleAnnFord are great, and help enormously to bring this tale to life.
- John Dorney is great as Alexander and works well with William and Carole.
I’ll begin with the positives:
- The pacing matches the era perfectly, so much so that this would not only have been a great edition to Season 1, but I’m actually shocked it never got made.
- The character moments are equally paced alongside the bigger moments.
The fact that this never made it to the screen is a shame, but fortunately for us fans, #BigFinish once again came to the rescue meaning that it at least saw the light of day in some capacity.
It’d fit well within #DoctorWho’s first ever season, although it’s a lengthy story in the vein of #MarcoPolo, so may be considered too similar to the former.
If you’re someone who prefers audio dramas over audiobooks, then this may be a struggle for you. If you prefer the latter or enjoy both, this is a must-listen. Fortunately, I’m in the both category and really enjoyed it.

I begin the second series of #DoctorWho’s #LostStories, starting with #FarewellGreatMacedon.
Although this wasn’t that level of bad, I only hope that this is a transitionary release preparing for a return to quality moving forward.
Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
In fact, this reminds me of how #FearTheWalkingDead was flipped on its head after a strong third outing, only to return with a fourth season that may as well have been the beginning of a new show, because it wasn’t the same as what had come before.
#Gallifrey Series 1-3 felt like the sci-fi political thriller version of #GameofThrones, where the stakes were always high. This series doesn’t, because it’s not the real Gallifrey.
Although this is a slight improvement on the previous instalment, it didn’t wow me compared to previous finales. I feel that this range peaked during those series and is now in uncharted waters.

I conclude #Gallifrey Series 4 with #Forever
If the next instalment is of this quality, it will be the weakest set in the #Gallifrey range thus far.
Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
For me at least, one of the main things that let it down somewhat was the runtime. It was far too long, so much so, that by the end I was struggling to care. I’m now concerned with how this set will wrap up.
Then again, what else would I expect from the wonderful #KatyManning. And #GeoffreyBeevers has more than proved himself in the past. It truly is a shame that this one didn’t match the quality of the previous instalment because the ingredients were there.
Oh, dear. I spoke too soon. Whilst this wasn’t a terrible story, it also wasn’t anything special. So much so that it’s one of, if not the, lowest scores I’ve given a #Gallifrey entry thus far. The guest cast did a lot of the heavy lifting in providing it with a respectable rating.
As part of my #Whoniverse rewatch, which I started last year, I decided to watch #K9andCompany today. I didn't realise it was #ElisabethSladen's birthday. Strange how some things fall into place just by chance.

More from #Gallifrey Series 4, with #Annihilation
Due to this, as well as some high drama, deadly stakes and an intriguing cameo, I’m now onboard. Don't let me down, #Gallifrey.
Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Continuing to search the Axis for another #Gallifrey to call home, #Romana, #Leela and co must go against some familiar faces.
I was slightly harsh against the multiverse approach but, despite the #WhatIf approach continuing, it was a nice improvement on the previous instalment.

More from #Gallifrey Series 4 with #Disassembled
However, it does a decent job at setting up the #WhatIf… scenarios and I’m interested to see where they take us next.
Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 stars
What with the MCU and other franchises strongly adopting the Multiverse at the time of listening to this, this just didn’t wow me in quite the same way as the first three series. It wasn’t terrible, far from it, but it lacked something that made me love the first three.
I don’t know if it’s because we know that this isn’t our Gallifrey, and so the consequences are not of too great importance, or the fact that the Multiversal approach has become a bit old hat by now.
In this timeline, Romana never travelled with the #FourthDoctor and instead, it was Leela who helped find the #KeytoTime.
Having arrived in the Axis, first seen in the #DoctorWho #MonthlyAdventures story #TheAxisofInsanity, #Romana and #Leela, alongside K9, Braxiatel and Narvin experience their very own #WhatIf… story play out.
To mark the 56th Anniversary of #DoctorWho story #SpearheadFromSpace, I've made a cinema-style trailer.
I hope you enjoy it.
