Don't freak out @nytimes.com but im doing the deeply weird thing in your building right now
“The U.S. federal government must keep making payments on the $16 billion New York Hudson Tunnel after an appeals court on Wednesday rejected the Trump administration's bid to halt paying for the project.”

One of the last cases challenging #congestionpricing was dismissed today. Only the NJ case remains and at this point could be decided in the @mta.info favor since it hinged on mitigation measures which the #mta is starting to deploy. #transit #traffic #train

We’re almost finished installing the slurry wall for the Hudson County Access Shaft! Once that wall is complete, we’ll begin excavating the 120-foot-deep shaft.
Construction of the Hudson Tunnel Project is resuming! Workers who have been impacted by the construction pause are returning to our construction sites this week.

Rendering of a ventilation structure that will be at the site of the current North Bergen Access Shaft. NYC skyline in the background it's beautiful Architecture is interesting. Looks like the guggenheim + sydney opera house!!??
Rendering of a ventilation structure that will be above the NJ-side portal at Tonnelle Ave. Just looks like a modern-facaded warehouse.
Rendering of a ventilation structure that will be at the current site of the Manhattan Access Shaft. The rendering shows a building rising above the High Line at dusk, it's kinda nice. The side facing the HL is an art wall with lights. Behind that it reminds me of the Obama library monolith.
There's some renderings in this I haven't seen before like of the ventilation structures. Not sure if these are final but they are kinda cool.

Fellas, is it ok to put a UPS on your wedding registry?
Snow covered backyard. Everything is untouched so there's like a foot of snow covering everything
Backyard update
Snow falling in a backyard. Fluffy.
That's a nice snow
There's a very nyc feeling to a photo of an empty lot in overcast weather
In November, New Yorkers overwhelmingly voted to speed up housing approvals. Just 4 months later, we're already seeing the results:

Gateway put out a great video showing all the different parts of the project.
It's not even the end. Future disbursements are still frozen while the court cases play out. So now it's a race between how fast they can spend the $205 mil and how fast the courts act. Dumb.
Delays cost money, jobs, and reputation. A project only becomes a "boondoggle" because of uncertainty.
And just a reminder - this is all money that was committed years ago under Biden. This freeze is illegal and the fact that a recovery process is playing out at all is really dumb. This simply should never have happened.
Funding tracker progress bar. Shows $205 million out of $12 billion released and the rest frozen.
Funds owed to Gateway have been released! This is great news and will let construction restart next week.
However this only represents 1.7% of the $12 billion total. Two court cases are ongoing to unfreeze the rest.
Until all the money is unfrozen, the project is still vulnerable to funding lapses
Also a terrible argument cause nothing makes costs go up more than delays
Yea that's gonna have to come from one or both of the lawsuits getting somewhere beyond emergency orders. Looking forward to those hearings!
$107 million out of $205 million ordered disbursed by a judge has actually been disbursed. $11.8 billion remains frozen
$77 million more in disbursed Gateway funds confirmed!

Progress bars showing funding status. $30 mil confirmed disbursed, $175 mil disbursement imminent, $11.8 bil still frozen
I put up a tunnel funding tracker now that some money is trickling back in. Notably it shows we're still fighting for 98.3% of it in court. Which is dumb cause it was already committed. This whole situation is dumb. hudson.tube
"Machete repair shops are a vital part of this community and I strongly oppose these residential zoning changes"
The vibes are good! The DOT has been forced to release $205 million to Gateway, which is expected to be disbursed fully next week. GDC says they have the first $30 million already. Despite this victory, funding is still frozen beyond the $205 million already owed. This is being fought in a separate lawsuit filed by GDC, as well as the ongoing NY/NJ lawsuit that won these initial disbursements. Gateway has not yet announced a plan to restart construction, which remains paused as of February 6.
Vibes are finally good! GDC has $30 million but no word yet on when construction will resume.

I love digging these holes for myself in honor of those digging real holes for us
NEWS — attorneys for the Feds tell a federal judge that the first $30 million in restored funding for the Hudson River Tunnel should be available for the project by Tuesday.
Story TK from me and @mollycranenewman.bsky.social
I agree with you on the states' perspective.
But I think the slow-walking from DOT is intentional. They had plenty of time since last Monday to figure out the administrative hurdles. They just refused to dedicate any resources to it because they assumed they'd just stall it in court forever.
