Cantabrian anchovies are often mentioned as the best - but imo, it’s the ones from L’Escala, Costa Brava.

Wiki: ‘During his 1542 expedition, Spanish explorer Ruy López de Villalobos named the islands of Leyte and Samar "Felipinas" after the Prince of Asturias, later Philip II of Castile. Eventually, the name "Las Islas Filipinas" would be used for the archipelago's Spanish possessions.’

A favourite bit of trivia is Ian Bairnson (Pilot guitarist) played the solo on Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights.

I would loved to have shared a mint tea and small biscuit with her.

Two framed oil paintings - the top one is a pastoral countryside scene with a moody sky, trees and fields, the bottom painting is a snow scene with a brick cottage, fence, tree and snowdrift.

Two of my late father's oil paintings. He loved John Constable but tried different painting styles – the snow scene is a favourite.

It was ... only time I ever encountered another musician rehearsing alone was the great bassist, Ron Carter - aged 50 at the time. Saw him enter the studio with his double bass. No fuss, no one helping.

When my band used to rehearse in the mid-80s in a studio in London, Mel Gaynor would hire a room to himself to rehearse. Would also hear Cutting Crew next door (among others) and quickly realised we weren't going anywhere!

Nice read. When we lived in Granada, Spain we’d visit a bar tucked away in a backstreet off the Gran Via whose owner loved Tom Waits and had stuff about him on the walls.

It’s not the kind of thing you see often in Spain - it’s usually football flags … or the virgin.
