Mayor Mamdani responds to the public libraries budget question
Mayor Mamdani responds to the public libraries budget question YouTube video by Mariame Kaba

A promise made, a promise broken.

NYCPLAN is disappointed @mayor.nyc.gov isn’t keeping his promise to end the budget dance and fund our library systems at a minimum of 0.5% of the city budget.

Tell him our our libraries deserve better:

Yes! I was reading a book that I grabbed off the library shelf and a friend was SHOCKED I hadn’t come across it from research/recommendations/online lists… but I can do this at the library because the financial stakes are none!

Buffer bills Phone zap 3/19 Thank you for joining! We’ll begin in a moment. Please introduce yourself in the chat: Name, pronouns, and why you joined tonight

call your councilmember to say no to the buffer zones. these bills block students from protesting at their schools.

Why Libraries Matter in a Fascist Moment “If we lose this as a public good and as a free public service, we will have lost everything,” says Mariame Kaba.

I talked with @prisonculture.bsky.social, Alison Macrina, and Katie Clark about libraries as public infrastructure, contested political terrain, and spaces of possibility—and about what it means to fight for them in this fascistic moment.
