A promise made, a promise broken.
NYCPLAN is disappointed @mayor.nyc.gov isn’t keeping his promise to end the budget dance and fund our library systems at a minimum of 0.5% of the city budget.
Tell him our our libraries deserve better:

I can't stop laughing at this post. It's perfect.
Yes! I was reading a book that I grabbed off the library shelf and a friend was SHOCKED I hadn’t come across it from research/recommendations/online lists… but I can do this at the library because the financial stakes are none!
mixed media piece of fabric and paint that says "TAX THE RICH!" - red, black, and gold colors.
mixed media art piece that says "Life is to share" in ribbon with colorful rainbow paint around it.
"life is to share" and "tax the rich" - these 6 and 7 year olds GET it. it's so much work 🫠, but i love my afternoons with the social justice art club in brooklyn.
I used to teach elementary school and one of my former co-teachers works at this school now so she invited me!
today I visited a school for their “phenomenal woman” day for women’s history month. sooo fun! talked to the kids about higher edu and community organizing. they tried on my doctoral gown and are going to write letters to their council person to echo @nycplan.org’s 0.5% for libraries demand.
VERY good to know
call your councilmember to say no to the buffer zones. these bills block students from protesting at their schools.

@nycplan.org member @abbyemerson.bsky.social testified on Wednesday at the City Council hearing on the preliminary library budget and made it clear that we expect the Mayor to follow through on his promise to libraries. youtu.be/ochbNLUyyEM
Melody, honorary member of @nycplan.org, testified on 3.18 at the City Council preliminary library budget hearing. youtu.be/3IT1npbU_8I - everyone should watch and then follow Melody's lead. @mayor.nyc.gov should take heed.
i will always get the review done, but i will always be 3 days late. one could set a clock to this.
I talked with @prisonculture.bsky.social, Alison Macrina, and Katie Clark about libraries as public infrastructure, contested political terrain, and spaces of possibility—and about what it means to fight for them in this fascistic moment.
Honestly, just trying to keep up with the little ones!
