Besides the obvious golden retriever x black cat, sunshine x gloomy boy dynamic. The different AUs and “what ifs” you can create with them are infinite and always so unique even if the concept is redone 100 times. If that makes sense.

Personally, it’s the narrative foils, kids from abusive situations growing up differently, on the opposite sides of a war, idolizing the same man with different outcomes for me (+ much more). They’re two parts of a whole in a lot of ways and hit on a lot of angst points that are delicious to read.
