public bathrooms that are accessible to all: a simple, necessary, revolutionary ask that we can all work on making happen right now
Sure, that's a fairly apt comparison. Mumbo Jumbo is a Black Revolutionary novel in a semi psychedelic postmodern mold, and Illuminatus is a gonzo psychedelic counterculture freakout, which are adjacent styles at least; and they directly share conspiratorial themes
Everyone I knew from Monterey back in the 90s were witches, but my sample was probably biased bc raves and 90s
Everyone loves Willie Nelson. In addition to the country band tees you’d expect, I’ve seen shirts for Rush, Turnstile. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Nirvana, Chat Pile, Ozzy Osbourne, Blood Incantation, Bloodywood, and of course the rock stuff you’d expect like Phish, the Dead, Panic, etc.
Never read Pynchon. Always described Mumbo Jumbo as a better written Illuminatus trilogy, but based on the jazz version of what P Funk was on about with Sir Nose and the Bop Gun instead of Discordianism
Willie was notable for making it slightly less likely to get your ass whooped for having long hair in Texas back in the 70s
This really brings it full circle after the Ataris subbed Black Flag for the Deadhead sticker on the Cadillac in their cover of Boys of Summer
The origin of this plot idea from what I've seen is in the very brilliant experimental modernist novel MUMBO JUMBO by Ishmael Reed. The underground Mu'tafikah (lol right?) liberate looted cultural artifacts and return them to their rightful homes. I'm glad the idea is getting picked up, but i do...
Mumbo Jumbo is one of my all time favorite novels and I’m so glad you mentioned it! The concept of Jes Grew searching for its text while the Wallflower Society tries to stamp it out explains so much culture. And the Mutafikah are just so fun.
For whatever reason, this Other People's Music isn't getting much traffic & that's a shame! All 5 acts are worth checking out if you're into their genre; I particularly connected with the soft-edged ambient psych haze of @tenandtracer.bsky.social's Caramel Bother

1. In a landmark ruling, the Montana Supreme Court has declared that the constitution, one of the most progressive in the nation, entirely protects transgender people.
The ruling is even insulated from SCOTUS decisions, due to how state constitutions work.

I’m with you in opposition to noodling, but my favorite musical trait is groove. Make it rhythmic and you can go forever in my book.
black and white prind with lovely birds, rabbits, mushrooms, and trees a burning man, a sun with sunbeams behind it, text reads "feed your oppressors to the land".
I’m still chasing after the high I got as a teenager eating my man Tommy’s bbq brisket in Texas. When it’s right it’s the best.

Happy Surrender and Freedom Day! On April 9, 1865, Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant and the Army of the Potomac. home.nps.gov/apco/planyou...
if anything horrific horrific happens i’m here i used to say if you need me call me and i meant if the darkness makes you feel lost i’ll be your gallows humor i’ll find you by your laughter i used to say if something bad happens let me know and i meant i will close any distance to catch you before you fall i only need a white flag
then if anything unprecedented happens text me i love you but my ringer’s off so many phone calls have ruined my life and i am trying to build one of the arks to carry us through this one horrific isn’t enough we have witnessed humanity dragged by the hair to hell we have seen the charred earth as each day brings unholy tantrums from men who hate the word no
today the president of the united states threatened the annihilation of a people the dictator of reality tv is jealous of the moon in an age of celestial mechanics he fetishizes a nuclear option today we know the names of every coward who claims power but cannot seem to shift a tide to save a life i’d rather worship a rock in the vastness i’d rather cry with astronauts
so if anything horrific horrific happens i’m here screaming NO with you grieving home with you raging ourselves free with all the people of earth at odds with our governments and if i can’t hold you close or again i will name the brightness for you i will be steadfast – an earthling choosing earth choosing earth

1. I've written a few times about Mamdani and what he can do for trans people to uphold his promises. But there are disingenuous people who apparently do not read articles, so I figured I would lay out his power and what other trans journos want him to do here directly and what is in his power.
Relateable. I just had to switch meds twice this month to find something that will work. Good luck with it all
