That’s useful to know. Still learning about the ups and downs of an agile tariff and working out my own strategies.

Hmm indeed! All on a learning curve…

I don’t know whether this is right but there’s the suggestion that export prices will go negative tomorrow. Does that really mean you’d get charged for your export?! @octopus.energy 🤔

I’ve been impressed by the extent to which the battery discharges during the morning peak to free up and the capacity to absorb surplus solar during low price export windows. Here’s one an example from Wednesday this week. Not that there looks like much prospect of surplus solar here this morning!

Impressed by how “bold” the Powerwall software is in discharging the battery on Octopus Agile Outgoing. Discharged the entire battery during the morning peak in readiness for a day with significant generation but minimal export income. @octopus.energy @maxsec.bsky.social

That’s good to know. Every day’s a school day! Do you know if there are any books that cover the history of the grid. Would love to find out more.

Good question! Just saw the headline in the Times last night..

Was interesting read that it might be the first time the grid has run with no fossil fuels since 1882! Only on outgoing agile so won’t be able to make use of the negative pricing. Have been wondering why a free hour or two hasn’t been announced…

Finding it fascinating to see how the profiles are varying according to weather and generation mix.

I’ve been particularly impressed by the way the battery clearly uses weather forecasts to decide how much to discharge in the morning. Helps with the morning peak and leaves the capacity to charge up with surplus solar during the day before discharging again in the evening.

It’s certainly been far more successful and lucrative a switch than I anticipated with the battery discharging twice each day given sufficient solar yield. Feel I’m now making much more use of the battery to the benefit of myself and the wider energy system.

Just over two weeks since I switched to @octopus.energy agile outgoing and it’s been a genuine game changer. One thing that’s surprised me is how the battery will export in the morning when there’s a good solar yield as it knows it’ll charge on surplus solar during the day. @maxsec.bsky.social

Highlights the importance of a historical perspective.

After a false start on Wednesday, it was great to see my home battery responding to the price signals of the agile version of outgoing octopus and discharging during the evening peak. @octopus.energy @maxsec.bsky.social

Wish I’d checked that first! Simply didn’t respond to the price signal and just held its SoC. Will try to persevere for a while as it’s clearly the direction of travel.

Following the recent reduction in the fixed export rate, I’ve taken the plunge and signed up to the agile version with @octopus.energy .
With the recent update of the TeslaPowerwall firmware, I’m hoping to see the battery discharge during the evening peak. 🤞 @maxsec.bsky.social

It was extraordinary. One of the few occasions I’ve seen shadows being cast by the moonlight.

Good evening from Cumbria. Extraordinary conditions for an evening run up Arthur’s Pike. Never realised a moonlit long exposure photo could be so colourful!

Was lovely to hear more about your very special relationship with these ravens first hand. 🙂

Beautiful spring like conditions for a short wander near Aira Force. A reminder that the quality of a walk isn’t dependent on its length as we enjoyed exploring a new path. Always good to encounter some glacial geomorphology en route!

I’ve thought the same but I’m wondering if things will change. Curious to give it a go and to see if the new functionality in the Tesla app then flexes my export.

With the reduction in the fixed Outgoing Octopus rate to 12p/kWh, I’ve been thinking about swapping to the Agile version. Noticed you can now connect a Powerwall to your energy provider which I’m hoping will make this easier. Wondering what other PW owners think of the update? @maxsec.bsky.social

One of those runs that makes you feel alive. A very familiar run up Arthur’s Pike but in the dark and the snow it felt like a mini adventure. Terrible photos but hopefully they give a sense of the conditions!

Hmm. I work with plenty of geologists but I’m not one myself. Maybe some sort of mineralisation but I’ll try to remember to ask someone when I’m in the department on Thursday.

Another enjoyable wander up Gowbarrow Fell yesterday. Never seem to lose my child like sense of excitement when it snows!

Good to hear from you and sorry for the slow response. Doesn’t look like there’s much change in sight! At least the daylight hours are starting to lengthen.
