I mean correlation is not causation but it's becoming glaring that in the past six months or so, now that Claude is writing everyone's code, it's become normal for every site and app to be broken.

Letterboxd screenshot Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) Watched by Branson Reese 28 Apr 2022 Abrams isn't a man so much as he's an avatar of cultural entropy. If you make something popular enough eventually you will die or sell it off and and a person in thick rimmed glasses whose main artistic vision is that he loves to have meetings will take it and sandblast it until it's nothing. I hate to see this happen here but maybe it's good that this happened. Maybe every franchise should collapse into a version of itself that makes shareholders nod and shake each others' hands. We should learn to speak in a language that rich people who don't dream can't comprehend.

Weird criticism to level at a play about a historical time period in which every single female stage role was performed by a person with a penis
This. Most of the people who complain about “virtue signaling” are people who have simply forgotten how to be virtuous.
You notice how thousands and thousands of cops aren't coming out to condemn Jonathan Ross for senselessly killing Renee Good?
This is what people mean by "all cops are bastards". If this were any other profession, the entire group would condemn it. With cops it's the reverse, they all justify it.
I can finally announce:

my one plea as we ring in the new year with Zohran being sworn in as mayor is to take some fucking wins
he’s not going to be perfect, there will be setbacks and disappointments, but take some joy and some pride in the good that comes out of this
good things are more durable when we celebrate them
This is just going to always be my go-to response to this kind of thing anthonymoser.github.io/writing/ai/h...
Longish thread but worth the time.
really cannot be emphasized enough that bari weiss has literally never done journalism. i don’t mean that in the pejorative sense. i mean that in the “has never performed the job she was hired to do” sense
“It’s really exciting to me that air quality improved throughout the entiremetro area,” said Fraser. “This tells us that congestion pricing didn’t simply relocate air pollution to the suburbs by rerouting traffic. Instead, folks are likely choosing cleaner transportation options altogether”
It is 2025 and I just had to explain to Amy that Hank Green and John Green are different people.
A still from Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Gul Dukat is sitting in Sisko's chair, drinking kanar and acting like he owns the place. (Dukat is a Cardassian, a kind of grey alien with bony ridges on their face and neck.) Caption: "... is s there a single statue of me on Bajor?"
The most realistic scene in DS9 is when Gul Dukat whined about how the Bajorans never erected a statue in his honor. A prophetic text.
😭
Maine needs to correct their poor choice in *Senators*
There are days I wake up worried that I’m too much of an art nerd, too hoity-toity in my preferences, for my chosen field. But then I have coffee and remember I’m a New Yorker and no, it is the children who are wrong. Time to keep plugging away at raising the bar.
Meme survey where the questions are: I will protect it I want to see it grow up happy and healthy I want to tell my friends and neighbors about it And all the responses are "strongly agree"

Members of the force's sports squad, responsible - among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access. Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said. Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs".
There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said. A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said. "The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there." Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."
In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”
My mobo doesn't have a TPM 🪦. Time to try out Linux distros.
The "AI" responses that Google gives about me and my work are consistently error-prone, which I know because I am me. If I know Google's "AI" responses give incorrect answers about things I know about, I can't trust it to give correct answers about things I don't know. So, no, I don't use it.
