*SO* thrilled yesterday to see the first screening of An Irish Atlantic Rainforest, the film about my 17-year journey rewilding a West Cork farm.
It went far and away beyond my hopes: a mesmerisingly lovely, immersive piece of work, almost dreamlike in parts, but grounded in ecology and daily life.
-government intelligence report shows most worrying potential impacts of our loss of nature weren't disclosed to the public
-only published after pressure from campaign groups, including an FOI
-but published version
leaves out some of the key points experts had found.

Recent talk recorded with slides.

The presentation builds on and expands my short contribution to last November’s National Emergency Briefing. climateuncensored.com/national-eme...
Duration: 50-minute talk followed by a 30-minute Q&A.
'The proposed (LNG) project would be close to a €1bn investment in new fossil fuel infrastructure. This is completely inconsistent with Ireland's legal climate obligations.'
Dr Aideen O'Dochartaigh appearing at recent Oireachtas Committee session on proposed 'Gas Bill'

Nature and climate funding must now be articulated as infrastructure: as essential to food systems, public health, energy stability and geopolitical resilience. In security terms, biodiversity is not sentimental, it is strategic.

Another excellent piece by Pádraic Fogarty. The Nature Restoration Law and the Land Use Review offer the government a real opportunity to address challenges like flooding head-on, but I have little faith they’ll take it.

A periodic reminder that very little has been done to address the biodiversity crisis

I'm in a wonderful Wellbeing Economy Ireland meeting w Mark Garavan, recently retired from University of Cork and author of the book "Care" (Cork University Press) @corkup.bsky.social. Fascinating, succinct account of the collapse of our systems & values. www.corkuniversitypress.com/978178205611...
Mercosur delayed for years, which may mean it's scuppered altogether.
What's the definition of 'public interest'? Is it leaving just the deep pocketed corporate players on the field, who make enough profit to pay their lawyers hundreds of thousands to defend their own economic interest, further stacking the deck against the environment in favour of corporate profit?
A must-listen piece that does an excellent job of teasing out the psychology, science, and politics of the Nitrates Derogation.
As Dr. Elaine McGoff says, “We have a phosphorus solution to a nitrates problem.” Maybe it’s time we started working on the nitrates solution? @jessikaroswall.ec.europa.eu
Treat Lough Derg like a bin, and it will show you what that looks like.

What do health and poverty, colonialism and climate change, farming and medicine have in common?
Check out the film screening and then chat with myself and Rupa Marya after - Sunday 16th November in Cork (early start, 12.30)

"The eyes of future generations are on [us], silently urging us to act bravely and quickly [...] to save them from a collapsed biosphere.
Will we rise to the moment and earn the right to be regarded as 'good ancestors'?"
Crucial question, crucial book.

Almost 180,000 people have already stood up for the rights of nature & our collective right to a healthy environment in Europe.
Can we get to 200,000 by end of today? 🙌
Really enjoyed this conversation. We need more voices like John @thinkorswim.bsky.social highlighting honestly where we are at, where we can go and how we might get there. His book The Lie Of The Land has just arrived today so looking forward to reading 👏👏👏

Pod of today's extended interview with @seanmoncrieff.bsky.social on NewsTalk to discuss THE LIE OF THE LAND is now online

Great article from @hannahdaly.ie on the shameful proposal to lower Ireland's climate ambition

“Far from being a distraction from decarbonisation, strategic adaptation can act as a catalyst for it, transforming climate breakdown from an abstract threat to a lived and shared reality.”

| Israeli Forces Attack UAWC’s Seed Bank Multiplication Unit in Hebron
Just moments ago, Israeli occupation forces launched a military assault on the Multiplication Unit of UAWC Seed Bank in the Hebron area, using bulldozers!
Really enjoyed this conversation with Manda and Diarmuid
