Same. I kind of enjoy arriving as late as possible without missing my flight because it makes the day a bit more interesting. My wife does not..... understand this approach, so I am a team player and arrive 2 hours early.

Obama joked he should get a gold watch for helping sell so many jets for Boeing. Maybe all the Chinese clean tech firms can give one to DJT.

Good thread. Policies will affect when EVs dominate, but the destination is already decided.

I do love how optimistic press releases are for these sorts of things - "Fermi Inc. Announces "Fermi 2.0" Strategic Evolution, New Board Chairman, Leadership Transitions, and New Office Locations" is the PR equivalent of our boardroom has undergone the equivalent of the French Revolution.

Rick Perry feeds IPO ducks with data center dream What’s the value of a company with no revenue, 15,000 acres of land, and plans for a nuclear-powered AI facility? Over $15 bln, according to stock market investors. The former Texas governor will grea...

Who could have ever seen this happening? www.breakingviews.com/columns/brea...

Oh, no! Fermi, Rick Perry's revenue-free firm planning to build nuclear reactors for data centers company, has just lost its CEO and CFO. To lose one may be regarded as misfortune, to lose both seems like carelessness. Company somehow still worth $4bn after 75% decline since Oct.

Questions are growing over several deals financed by the Arrakis Investment Authority following the stoppage of nearly all spice exports from the desert planet.

The fascination with making robots humanoid shaped is so silly. In 1950 we already had rockets that could finish the race in under 3 min because they weren’t hindered by having legs.

This detail in Tooze on how Germans responded rationally to inflation and the threat of the reichsmark losing its value is interesting.

It is 2027, the Strait is open. Seven ships have gone through Hormuz, two have turned back. Nuclear dialogue framework discussions have reached a successful completion and now both sides agree talks may be held at an undecided location in two to three months time.

The guy they interviewed was a PhD candidate (LOL) and you almost never get successful biotech startups with founders under 40, because knowledge and experience matter. You do get a ton of hype and fraud though! And the “anti-AI intelligence” framing, GMAFB. That boy is going to jail.

I never know what to get most annoyed at with these firms. Anyone claiming we know the generic basis of IQ is bullshitting, you’d probably have to edit 100s of genes for small effects, you’d have other effects (I’d bet some immune fuckery), the tech isn’t there and it would be unethical as hell.

Exactly. There’s a reason there’s a stereotype of ER docs and nurses being burnt out - the job is just incredibly hard and emotionally taxing. And 2020 led to so many people quitting. It’s not just a convenient plot line that Robby has PTSD

You’re right, overly cruel in that scene, albeit he was right too - Mohan was letting her personal issues interfere with her work which you can absolutely not do in an ER. But I think Robby was pretty kind with his biker friend and making Langdon do the spinal decompression to gain confidence

Ok disagree completely. Sure, I’d characterize him as demanding, especially on himself, but extremely kind. (Maybe this is just a reflection on why the majority of people in my family have worked in hospitals?)

Do people think of Robby as an asshole? Haven’t seen the latest episode yet but I would never, ever describe him as that.

I’ll raise the stroke stakes- yesterday someone was talking about how Starlink would make it so you would never have to charge your phone in an outlet again.

Yeah I don’t want an emergency stop at a bike shop in the middle of nowhere and have to ask for a weirdly-sized part that one company, made for two years, 12 years ago.

"I'm making an app" has become the new "I'm on a podcast"

(I am totally fine with this trend, as some of the stuff I've seen is cool - serves a niche that never would have before. It's also amazing how many people I know who are now vibecoding apps).

This is like when someone says, "to be honest". Why append that unless the other stuff you are saying is dishonest?

The most straightforward way would be 10x'ing the IRS staff and just auditing everyone over X income with a couple other basic pieces of criteria (for example: sole proprietorship income), for the decade. You'd get massive ROI from a fiscal perspective and it's a very precise targeting framework.
