Awkward Angle. Storks are tremendously impressive while soaring but they can look a bit awkward on landings. Those wings are so big. #stork #leiden #cronesteyn #birds #birdflight

Mr and Mrs Return Home. The stork couple in the Cronesteyn nest had left an hour earlier, presumably to forage. It was worth the wait to see them fly back together. #stork #birds #cronesteyn #leiden #birdbehavior

Heron Nest Building. Herons were building nests in this Cronesteyn copse long before the spoonbills discovered the spot around 8 years ago. Now, having to share the space, the herons are hard at work, building their nests a bit higher in the treetops.

Surprise Surprise: a cattle egret, rare in these parts, looked lost among the spoonbill nests in Cronesteyn. Was it looking for colleagues or thought the white birds must be family? #cattleegret #egret #cronesteyn #leiden #birds

Musicians. In addition to meeting the demands of their academic programs, many students in Cambridge play music at a very high standard. Where do they find the time and energy to do it all? #music #stjohnscollege #cambridge #academia
