I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.
Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…
All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.
We CAN change things.

Support our former RA Joël Eke from Benin for his masters at the Paris School of Economics! Despite his great achievements, Joël still faces a significant financial hurdle to cover tuition and living costs. He's halfway there. Any support is highly appreciated!
Exactly.
We're all witnessing entire people being starved to death-as a form of genocide, and yet we're still just doing our business as usual. We're not dropping everything in our hands, taking a stance together that THIS CANNOT BE WHAT DEFINES US AS HUMANS.
The world as it is now is a true nightmare.

"...if all we do is speak out against what is happening now, then we will get mistaken for the old establishment. We will be mischaracterized as defenders of “what was”, when we know that “what was” was not working and was not fair for many."

If you're a professor, you have a LOT of power. Not to freak you out, but authoritarian regimes' favorite first move is to shut down the intellectuals in one way or another. Which means you're a threat to them.
Use your power. Speak out. Go on TV. Give interviews. Be loud!
"...the least equitable (academic <> practitioner) collaborations were those that were initiated by either academics or practitioners in an instrumental manner to satisfy donor requirements."
Great post.
