My 1st devlog is out for "Road to making a VR game".
I'm hoping to make this a series as I go from R&D to game release, so I hope its interesting as a behind the scenes as well as giving a boost in motivation to others making their first game too.

I went on an indefinite break from VRChat world creation back in May, with the intention to explore other platforms/options.
I won't be returning to VRC as a world creator anymore, the break from it is now permanent.
So what did I choose?

I have released a patch to keep CyanTrigger running for now, because I care about the creators who use it. But long-term, the platform needs to invest in stable, documented, and supported tools. That is not something a solo community dev can patch forever.
If CyanTrigger has been important to your workflow, I strongly encourage you to give feedback directly to VRChat. Ask for clarity, for support, and for proper investment in the tools creators rely on. It shouldn’t fall on unpaid community developers to keep critical tools working
I was contacted again over the weekend suggesting talks after the holiday. I was forced to wait again. I thought we had actually started a path to professional discussion. That did not go anywhere either. VRChat is not interested in long-term solutions.
After a week of no response, VRChat then released the breaking update on a Friday before a long weekend, without notice to me, or to the creator community. As you can imagine, creators, including myself, were upset.
One option was to officially tell creators to stop using CyanTrigger. I wanted them to stop promoting my content without asking. I hoped that VRChat could pay me to continue to support, but I also gave an option that did not involve money. I expected to be told of their decision.
I was informed of the bug by VRChat in which they offered a "fix" that violated my license. My hands were tied until these talks were resolved. I rejected their proposal and provided multiple proposals of my own. I assumed that VRChat would be willing to work with me on this.
CyanTrigger v4.4.4 Bug Fix
I have always intended to make this fix. I said before that I would keep CyanTrigger maintained for Udon 1. CyanTrigger was designed to be fairly future-proofed based on the architecture of Udon. VRChat introduced an api change that broke CyanTrigger.
latest patch notes from VRChat, looks like cyantrigger won't be supported going forward which cuts off a lot of world creators like myself🫡
I have avoided publicly voicing my frustrations for this platform over the years, but this is an exception.
I publicly announced I would stop supporting CyanTrigger over 6 months ago. VRChat could have contacted me then. Or at any time within the past 4 years since CyanTrigger's release. They did not do so with intention to help me or the project.
Yes, someone from VRChat contacted me about CyanTrigger. It was one out of touch message without discussion. It felt very unprofessional. Rights to my work are not free. The public announcement was how I found the answer to the questions I asked them.
I will not consider open sourcing CyanTrigger. I do not recommend anyone trying to start an open source alternative to CyanTrigger either. This is a platform problem, not something the community should be trying to solve.
While I could consider a bug fix, this will only happen again in another sdk update. What incentive do I have to continue support vrchat as a platform? People upset with me should look to vrchat for not releasing an alternative. Udon has been available for 5 years.
CyanTrigger should not have been a community solution. I stopped working on vrc tools due to lack of support back to me. No money for one. Also no one else helped answer questions. It was exhausting. If you care about a tool, you should find ways to give back, even without money.
The new VRChat sdk is not compatible with CyanTrigger. If this affects you, voice your concerns to @vrchat.com and include specifics on why the official tools do not provide what you need. Do not rely on unofficial tools. Community members shouldn't be responsible for creators.
I know that feeling since I always comment when I see z-fighting, even before this project.
ZFighter is finally out! This took longer than expected. It all started after asking if a tool like this already existed. It did not, so I decided to make it! My contribution to the greater #Unity Community. Now to work on games again instead of starting on another editor tool 👀
Highly recommend this to anyone doing any kind of game dev in #unity , I used this on Bullet TIme Agent and I was confident there wouldn't be any z-fighting in there but I ended up finding quite a few (some I couldn't believe I misssed that were bigger than the player XD).
I'm really excited about releasing ZFighter! It's already come in handy making our latest asset pack, and I don't know how I ever lived without it.
Some of you may recognize the environment and characters in the video....if only we'd had this back then!

Check out Studio CyFi's new asset pack for #Unity3D on the #AssetStore. @fionna.bsky.social did a good job on all the different models. This is not all we have been working on. A new Unity Editor Tool will be releasing soon too.
