And what a name! Sounds like something out of a Roald Dahl book

And now I’m curious what you were teaching :)
Thank you for the thread. I co-supervised a Phd student with autism. Despite efforts to inform ourselves, understand and to be as flexible as possible, we found it hard to appreciate what they were experiencing. Framing it in terms of demand-heavy and multiple processing is really helpful.
Oh - what’s the story on this?
Thank you Lotti that is gorgeous
Ooooh enjoy Silas Marner. Reminds me of my very beloved father-in-law :)
I think the thing with a lot of the mega Victorian novels is that you have to get past the first 300pp pain barrier. But once you do, you are totally there
Ah how fab. One of the things I loved most as a uni teacher was co- teaching a course on children and politics that included studying Brontes juvenilia 🥰
Thank you for this post - this is such a brave thing to share.
The slow listening club is a lovely idea.
(Are you wedded to doing it on substack? I guess you know a lot of people trying not to use it because of its promotion of eg Andrew Tate amongst other things )
Another amazing thread from @rhaplord.bsky.social
I thought he would at least be competent and probably decent.
Also completely wrong
Thank you - I’m loving these - Mull was my Dad’s favourite island
Delighted this will be available on audiobook - thank you
Oooh looks great
That is wonderful
Ha - frustrating. I’m kind of thrilled that you live in rural Alaska :)
Now 79 😀

Would it be ok if I sent you a quick Q via DM?
Brilliant
Yes! I was at pains to use a small business for something this week and this is what they did
Well, still recovering from the major relapse back in September (looking like it will take a year to get back to where I was).
My big aim is to get into the garden for a minute or two this summer :)
Ah, it sounds a great class :)
Tomatoes - super easy and homegrown are delicious :)
Ah - brilliant! Thanks for sharing that
What a great memory. So you and Rabbit were acculturated to symphony listening from an early age.
I’ve always been more of a solo/chamber music person. But am now learning to sit & listen to symphonies, in honour of, and to feel close to my lovely father-in-law.
And today’s: spectacular!!
WOWWWW Lottie - that last movement! Absolutely blown away. So exciting.
I just cannot imagine how it must be to hear it live.
Hope you have/had a great class. You choose such wonderful things
I am lucky enough to have my late father-in-law’s album collection. So I listened to half of this symphony today, will listen to the other half tomorrow night.
The recording is a version conducted by George Szell, from the 1960s :)
I feel your pain. I’ve been mistaken for my mother (including once by me when I got into a lift and was amazed to see her there, only to realise it was a mirror 😬)
When I was researching composer Olive Turner I came across a song by her entitled, ‘Thoughts travel quicker than the telephone’ (1919). Maybe there should be a whole early C20 telephone-themed album
