The Framework Desktop is a beast I've been running the Framework Desktop for a few months here in Copenhagen now. It's an incredible machine. It's completely quiet, even under heavy, stress-all-cores load. It's tiny too, at just 4.5L...

Introducing Face Auth: Worldcoin’s newest private, security-enhancing tech Worldcoin is piloting Face Auth, a new security measure that ensures only the person who verified their World ID at an orb can use it.

Not perfect, but there's a time-of-use check using facial authentication to ensure it's the correct person.

It's doubly irritating - the whole eyeware industry is basically a monopoly doing price fixing. So there's 3-10x markup before the tariffs.

We are learning the wrong lessons from lockdown And unless we learn the right ones, we risk making the same mistakes in a new pandemic

It's 5 yrs today since lockdown started in England, but "We must never have lockdown again" is the wrong lesson.

Lockdowns are terrible but so are deadly pandemics.

Our choices 5 years ago were limited - we can & must do better in the future.

Do read my post.

THIS IS HUGE! An HIV PrEP drug candidate in the form of a ONCE-yearly intramuscular injection has been shown to BLOCK HIV infections AND participants achieved AND maintained protection ABOVE the 95% efficacy threshold for UP TO 56 WEEKS. Phase III trials are scheduled for later this year! 🧪🧵⬇️

Watched an AI struggle against a wild JS unit test today. After twenty minutes it successfully hooked up a debugger, that didn't help, it resorted to print statements ... then gave up and deleted the tests.

Big agenda

AI and SQL were basically made for each other.

It understands and writes SQL better than I do, and it can read complex query plans casually and provide useful advice.

This little four server cluster at the @frame.work event yesterday made me too happy and now I need one.

Notice the direct thunderbolt networking!

Try the app Timeshifter, I'm a convert after using it for a job going US west<--> Europe frequently.

Gives you a schedule of when to be awake/try to sleep, when to seek/avoid light, etc. starts a couple days before travel.

Also a small dose of melatonin 30 minutes before sleeping.

Did wonders.

I'm increasingly convinced that postgres is a scam.

Every time I see it actually used by regular people at any scale it's in this territory where you have to deeply understand the internals to tune and adjust things at some level that regular people never get to.

They got 13m from Twitter, an 8m seed, and a 15m Series A in October. Burn rate hopefully<$1m/mo?

I think they should have a considerable runway and the ability to hire plenty of lawyers at this point.

HTTP Admin interface — TwitterServer 24.2.0 documentation

Twitter has a really useful admin HTTP interface on every service instance (twitter.github.io/twitter-serv...) - a lot of the cool stuff seems to be based on a body of work called zpages (e.g. medium.com/opentelemetr...).
