Due to the Iran war we’re experiencing the 2nd fossil fuel shock in 5 years
Half of recessions since 1970 are due to fossil fuel shocks
Our economy, household finances & families have paid the price
The solution lies in clean homegrown power we control

Great to meet Sarah and Buz from EBP South today.
They’re doing fantastic work bringing businesses and schools together across Hampshire - helping young people understand their career options, build confidence and get ready for the world of work.
Really proud of the Goat Boys in Basingstoke taking on Snowdon to raise £7,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
They’ve led it themselves and are backing a cause close to one of the boys.

1/2 Do you need help with a local issue?
We’ve been helping a lot of people across Basingstoke this month.
From chasing GP appointments, to supporting people with debt, to dealing with ongoing issues like antisocial behaviour - no two cases are the same, but they all matter.
Really pleased to be appointed as PPS to the government’s transport team led by the brilliant @heidialexander.bsky.social
It’s a cracking team, working on delivering a transport system that works for everyone 🚂 🚌 🚗 ⛴️ ✈️ 🚲 🏃♂️
It was an honour to join @jasathwal.bsky.social commemorating the contributions of Commonwealth troops in the First World War. I also paid tribute to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and our dedicated volunteers in Basingstoke honouring the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Protecting my constituents’ living standards means tackling the cost of living head on and taking the right decisions to keep the economy stable.
Shocking doesn’t even begin to cover it. These comments are unacceptable. Reform UK should never have allowed him to stand in the first place.

England’s chalk streams are among the rarest habitats on Earth & a crucial part of our natural heritage. In Basingstoke we are lucky to have beautiful rivers like the River Loddon.
I believe securing UNESCO World Heritage status for chalk streams would build on the protections Government has made.
Great to meet Fiona, CEO of Victoria’s Promise, a charity founded here in Basingstoke supporting young women and their families through cancer and beyond. Fiona set up the charity in memory of her daughter who wanted her experience to help others facing the same journey. Read more: buff.ly/gNbbbrI

1/2 Great to hear colleagues making inspiring and sober contributions in the International Women’s Day debate taking place in Parliament right now, sharing powerful stories and reflections from across the House.
The only route to long term energy security for our country is through cheap clean power that we control here at home, not dependence on international fossil fuel markets that we don’t control.
Today in the Treasury Select Committee I asked the Chancellor how the Government is preparing to protect households and businesses from potential energy bill shocks caused by instability in global markets.
Great to join @alaintolhurst.bsky.social on The Rundown @politicshome.bsky.social alongside economists @jamessmithrf.bsky.social & @nickridpath.bsky.social to talk through the Spring Statement, energy prices and the global outlook.
Clip below on why energy security matters for the UK economy👇
Last week in Cabinet Office Questions, I asked the Minister how the Government is making sure the Civil Service is driving forward on our priorities in Basingstoke, raising living standards and improving the public services we all rely on.

1/2 Following my question to the FCDO about my constituent in the Middle East, I want to make sure anyone affected knows where to get help.
Following a disturbing case where a woman was assaulted after a stranger was given a key card to her Travelodge room, I joined MPs writing to the company demanding answers.

Alongside MPs and Peers from across Parliament, I’ve asked Travelodge to meet with us to explain what happened.
