This is on Classmates dot com, which I didn't connect with classmates on, but then again I didn't give the site any money so it's very much like old school dating sites: no messaging

You used to be able to make jokes about interns deploying untested code to prod, but now you just pray not to be the next human sacrificed to the Almighty LLM
Wow, %=v(@visitorFirstName)=%% visited my profile? You don't say! π
Epistemology trolley problem: suppose you had discovered a novel idea which would help many, many people but would also be unpopular enough that you and your loved ones would be tortured if you shared it with the world, even if you attempted to share it anonymously. Would you share the idea or not?
Some people here (minor league game) have Tortugas shirts which button down in the middle of the logo, so if not fully buttoned up the shirt looks like "TORT GAS". All I can think is, at least you didn't get felony diarrhea
Like just compare the stuff in cishet family entertainment, where nobody thinks it's a big deal to play part of a song about sex as long as you can't hear anything super explicit, vs lgbtq stuff like drag brunch where similar slightly-risquΓ©-but-not-dirty stuff becomes a huge deal and legal issue
For all the blathering about trans people in Florida... I'm at the Tortugas game and they played a clip from Rihanna's S&M on the PA. The stadium is full of families with kids. Nothing explicit in the short clip but I can't help but think about the awful media spin if a trans person did such a thing
Not having grown up in Florida, I didn't realize cotton candy starts sweating after just a few seconds due to the humidity lol like "I just got this why is it... dripping juice everywhere?!"
Some people are like "the glass is 3/4 full, things are pretty good π" whereas I am like "the glass is 1/4 empty for no reason π€ is that acceptable?". On the other hand, some people are like "the glass is 3/4 empty π things are so hard" and I'll be like "the glass is 1/4 full π gonna make this work"
Ah but what if I wanted buggy, restrictive DRM; access fees like an unstoppable bleed; privacy invasion; and commercials and propaganda funneled at me, but all I have is a CD player and a stack of CDs from before autotune and protools made everything feel less real and human? What will I ever do =(
Read that again. This Louisiana bill forces homeless people to choose between jail and "treatment"βand if they can't pay for the latter, they will be forced to perform unpaid labor.
The historical precedents are clear: convict leasing, Black Codes, debtor's prison.
It's an insanely optimistic reading of technological advance. Lol
Also they should let you pee in the river. For extra pizzazz
Right, and any built-in scaling mechanics which could have handled this DDoS better could have been modified recently, by bot or not. Code changes are still a concern
They should make the next version of the universe let you swim down the river of time at your own pace

And it doesn't even protect children.
Any ideas where I can share this so people who like this kind of stuff will see it? I am so not connected to the lit world.
Some software vendors: Good news, we integrated with AWS and Cloudfront for enhanced security! You'll need to update your firewalls to allow dozens of new ports and hundreds of new subnets, including huge portions of EC2 address space... for security π
Mama mia! And what will-a Mario do with no reginos either! Making it past all those-a goonbas finally, but the princess is in the other feed, and there's not enough reginos to-a get there =(
Quantum tunneling becomes more intuitive when you consider how a particularly energetic fart occasionally escapes through a fully closed butthole without pushing it open at all but rather bypassing it entirely, somehow
First it was all about how eggs were hard to get. Now they are doing this. π
Maybe I'm being too lighthearted but I just cannot take the fox news scene seriously. It can be so cartoonish
But that's statistical. No moral sense. (The process of a society coming to some agreement can still have failures, certainly. And sometimes even statistically fair consensus opinions can represent reprehensible ideas. The intended context is that, in a democracy, variance of opinion is expected.)
When social policy is made or justice is rendered, ideally a society proceeds with a social consensus, but this will of course be the combination of many diverse perspectives. So it's normal to find yourself at odds with society at times; this isn't inherently a failure of the process.

Take me back to Hole City USA
When rimming goes super mainstream in twelve years, there's going to be, eg, a canned pasta called Meaty Buttholes as a reference to the pasta's shape. First news story. Then it'll be over. There will be a Holebook breakthrough app. Shithole-flavor Cheerios. Even cybermerkhins will make a comeback
This leads me to wonder if a lot of "omg I encountered a random person doing something which seemed like a red flag!" stuff I see is a failure of empathy. But also, protecting yourself often means not extending empathy to strangers, because that can make you dangerously prone to being manipulated...
I work with a lot of neurodivergent people and what is clear to me after many years is how harmless a lot of their behaviors are which could be read as problematic without sufficient context. But when you don't know some random person, their problematic-seeming behaviors can actually be red flags...
Fun little experiment:
Think about the last time you talked about spangles or spangling.
Actually, how often in your life do you think you've even used the word spangle? Can you define it?
.
.
.
Now consider the phrase "star-spangled banner" and see if that changes your answers to the above
I was very lucky that my education included a lot of social awareness, critical thinking, and empathy, yet I *still* have found colossal distortions in my beliefs as I've aged, and I wonder how many more flaws I will uncover during the remainder of my living days
