According to CPD they went north off the exit, and it’s closer to Summit Elementary.

So my teenager would tell you that if you’re riding a bike in the forest after dark with a headlamp, you don’t notice the spiderwebs. Either that or the spiders have all dehydrated to death from the drought here in Esmont. (Thankfully he just got in with no bloodshed from branches he didn’t see.)
People who are against squishing food crop pests absolutely baffle me. Does the author not need to eat?

Those are chicks, not ducklings.
I remember paying under $1 in the summer of 2001 when I was a college student in Florida. I’m so glad that my husband has a Nissan Leaf and we’re grandfathered into Appalachian Power’s separate meter/nighttime discount program. With gas at $3.99, the cost equivalent is the Leaf gets 114 mpg.
The bigger orchards will be ok but will work all night. Smaller ones are probably going to have damage to peaches and anything that blooms on the earlier side. I know that last year Albemarle Ciderworks lost all of their peaches and early apples for the season with that April freeze into the teens.
For most things, yes. I’m sure that Henley, Chiles, & Carter Mountain are probably doing an awful lot of work tonight, but nothing we can really replicate at home. Do you have any cool-season veggies in the ground that might need help at these temps? I haven’t put any of mine in.
Not the fruit trees because I think last night did them in. Sigh. I don’t have anything else in the ground that’s tender.
Thanks in advance for all of the hard work you’re going to be doing today, Travis. I appreciate everything you do to keep us informed and safe!
My poor kiddo. He’s having a Groundhog Day situation with college admissions for his preferred program. Applied early- deferred to regular decision in February. Regular decision today- waitlisted. He should know by the first week of May, but it means he still can’t make solid plans now!
My AWN station at home went from 89.4° at 4:30pm yesterday to 32.4° at 1:30pm today. This weather is ridiculous.
It is. I can tell you that last April’s 17° after everything had bloomed and most had fruit set did all of them in for the season. The trees themselves were fine but not a single bit of tree fruit was to be had.
Here’s a helpful link - today’s weather should be ok though.
24 hour temperature line graph showing a low of 46° overnight and a high of 80° 3/9 afternoon.
Also Esmont. Our low was 46°. The cat is glad that it’s already back up to 60° because he wants the window open for birdwatching. LOL
Charlottesville folks - any suggestions on who to hire for some one-off yard work? I’ve got a bad case of winter creeper along a fence line and I need some help to tackle it. It’s probably a half to full day’s work for one person down in Esmont.
Unfortunately it doesn’t say anything about timeframes. I’m aware that this person has/had it listed (by agency, not job description/title) on LinkedIn at one point, but I really thought it was several years past being current. I’d be appalled to find out that they are still employed in this way.
So, how is this stuff verified? Someone in my community is listed as active. I was aware that they were previously employed but now have held a different job for the last few years and I thought they were no longer employed in this way. Mostly I’m curious about how the list knows they’re current.
Man, we’ve even been getting USPS down here in Esmont since like Tue/Wed of last week?
FedEx is likely a different story. If they attempt delivery, I presume the box coming today will be dumped in a puddle in travel lanes of the closest secondary road and they’ll be the ones to run it over first.
Yeah… less than a minute in I told my husband that it had to get turned off. There was no “nearly”.
Parts of Allied St. were a mess - the property owners of the buildings back at the end by the railroad tracks seemed pretty negligent in particular. (Not the businesses themselves - it sounds like the landlord shirked responsibility as their parking lots also still had issues.)
Institutions are dangerous. Their history is rife with abuse, neglect, and premature death. People with disabilities should be able to live in the community they love.
Texas, Alaska, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, & South Dakota are suing the federal government to fight Sect. 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (predecessor of the ADA) that requires communities to serve disabled people in the community, not an institutional setting if possible.
After another unsuccessful attempt at hacking ice chunks to free a second car in our driveway, all I can think is that this storm can just go right on out to sea. I’m not interested in snow right now!
Our friends at The Haven just sent a message asking for donations to support over 80 community members who are homeless that The Haven and other partners have placed in hotels during this winter weather. They need to raise $27k. Please consider donating today.

On their FB post they said $66 gets one neighbor in a hotel and fed for a night.
I haven’t gotten up to actually look at accumulation, but I can hear that it’s been sleeting on and off for probably the last hour or so here in Esmont.
Yeah, sleeting in Esmont, too.
I hope you stay warm and your power stays on!
