Given that inequality is one of the driving forces stifling growth and undermining social cohesion, it makes sense that this policy cuts across all political parties.

In a normal political environment progressive parties would start debating the "optimal" ratio but embrace the general premise.

93 million Iranians carry on their ancient civilization. It’s unimaginable to threaten to wipe out one the world’s oldest continuous civilization.

It’s barbaric to threaten a hundred million people with genocidal language.

Moderate global warming does not rule out extreme global climate outcomes - Nature Extreme global climate outcomes may occur even under moderate 2 °C warming and may turn out to be more extreme than model-averaged projections at 3 °C or 4 °C warming.

Extreme global climate outcomes may occur even under "moderate" 2 °C warming

This research challenges current approaches focused on 3 °C or 4 °C models thresholds: they indicate that a 2 °C world may entail severe impacts in several sectors

This underlines the urgency for mitigation and adaptation

Hallucinated citations are polluting the scientific literature. What can be done? Tens of thousands of publications from 2025 might include invalid references generated by AI, a Nature analysis suggests.

Tens of thousands of publications from 2025 might include invalid references generated by AI.

AI is starting a death spiral for human knowledge. We won't know what is fake and what is trust worth. This will lead us to make wrong decisions and cause substantial harm.

AI risk centuries of progress.

You can digitize them to make it more manageable. I bought a machine last year that did it pretty quickly

This is demonstrating that if climate change is an emergency then we should move to a 4 day work week.

I thought lib dem policy was having a minimal deterrent and not having a large stockpile? This policy was taken due to Putin, after a lot of debate, as most Lib Dems did not want nuclear escalation.

They didn't want a race to the bottom.

I know you think it’s colloquial to interchange the terms but it’s not. You don’t use the word understand in this situation. Attacking innocents is not a logical consequence. It’s a crime against humanity fueled by othering of your neighbours.

Anyone who "understands" attacking community buildings and threatening innocent people need to hang their head in shame. Applies to synagogues, mosques, and any other place of community gatherings. Where is the empathy?

Wrong take. Really wrong take. This is divisive for the sake of clicks. There was a whole campaign to choose the theme and nature won.

Supplementary analysis of the Seventh Carbon Budget - Climate Change Committee This report, complementing the Committee’s advice on the UK’s Seventh Carbon Budget, tests the Committee’s cost and energy…

@thecccuk.bsky.social's supplementary analysis of the 7th Carbon Budget is out.

It's found that each pound invested in reaching net zero yields between £2.2 and £4.1 in benefits. By 2050, avoiding climate damages is estimated to save between £40bn to £130bn.

A smart transition just makes sense.

Great read, I wish more people understood how systemically transitioning to the green economy is the smartest strategy

Reaching net zero by 2050 ‘cheaper for UK than one fossil fuel crisis’ Climate change committee finds move to renewable energy would also bring health, economic and security benefits

"Adopting renewable energy and green technologies, such as electric vehicles and heat pumps, would be the best and most cost-effective option for the future economy, @thecccuk.bsky.social found.

Doing so would prevent the kind of shock that consumers are experiencing from the Iran war."

I agree that it’s an important tool. I just think people wouldn’t be as susceptible if the economy wasn’t rigged. There are “real” grievances being exploited to promote hatred against women, minorities & the disabled.

To stop Alpha from going this way we need to focus on both the tech and economy.

Oh I think they deserve the “male loneliness” epidemic. I just think that focusing on tech misses the wider cause of this shift. The post 2008 rapid increase in inequality has meant that no one has a real shot at replicating any wealth, leaving them open to scapegoating (misogyny, racism) propaganda

I wouldn’t underestimate how inequality has allowed this to resonate. Gen Z are about to be 30 and have been given such a raw deal that scapegoating becomes easier.

I met some brilliant individuals at Columbia, who were only there because of their military service. I feel for those who won’t have access to their dream schools, especially if they are from the area.

I left Canada the day of the Brexit vote, receiving the results on the plane. I've never regretted moving to the UK. It's home. Still, it would be hard to take a leap of faith to move to the UK in 2026. The instability through my 20's and 30's would be too high to justify the risk.
