The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have protein aliquots to keep,
And gels to run before I sleep,

Using mosquitoes to vaccinate bats could curb the spread of deadly diseases But scientists say there are practical and ethical challenges to overcome before the strategy could be deployed in real-world settings.

Vaccinating bats could reduce the risk of these viruses infecting other animals, including people

It was an honour to be one of the volunteers for the EMBO workshop. These 11 days were a blur. From grids to RELION-cryoSPARC, the workshop taught us all so much.

And now, we pass the baton to the next organising institute.

Bis bald!

Hey, fellow evolutionary biologists:

If you support trans rights, like, comment, or repost this. I want to show that transphobes like Richard Dawkins are a loud minority that does not represent our community

An image of two slides. The first slide reads:
“In 1965, Benjamin Rubin of Wyeth
Laboratories patented his invention of
the bifurcated needle
• This adaptation of a sewing needle was able to hold a small drop of vaccine
between the two small prongs
• This method of vaccination used much less vaccine and was easier to perform”
The second slide reads: “Bifurcated needles were patented under
United States patent number 3,194,237,
July 13, 1965
• But Wyeth Laboratories waived all royalties for needles manufactured under contract
with the World Health Organization
• It’s estimated that 200 million bifurcated needles were used in the eradication campaign (Fenner et al., 1988)”

Today I introduced smallpox eradication in the vaccines class I’m co-teaching w/ @jackiantonovich.bsky.social
A public health hero I learned about prepping for this class is Benjamin Rubin. He developed the bifurcated needle, & waived all royalties for needles manufactured under contract w/the WHO.

Denmark close to wiping out leading cancer-causing HPV strains after vaccine roll-out A nationwide study suggests infections with human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18 have been virtually eliminated since vaccination began in 2008 – protecting even unvaccinated women.

I am here to say vaccines are awesome because guess what Denmark is close to completely eliminating the two most dangerous HPV strains (serotype 16 and 18) and with the cervical cancer.I think that is bloody AMAZING!!!!

Is it possible for DNA to lag a little behind if the DpnI digested product was directly loaded onto the gel? I am expecting 5.5 kb bands, these are almost 5.8 if not 6. The plasmids were at 5.5 kb before I digested them.

In Early-Phase Pancreatic Cancer Clinical Trial, Investigational mRNA Vaccine Induces Sustained Immune Activity in Small Patient Group Learn how MSK researchers are deploying mRNA vaccines against pancreatic cancer.

I wonder if spreading extremely encouraging experimental results on helping treat pancreatic cancer with *gasp* mRNA vaccines may help people who have villainized them come around. This is a good press release on the study and links to the Nature paper. www.mskcc.org/news/can-mrn...

Opinion | A Week Inside One of Northern Gaza’s Last Hospitals Most of the medical staff at Kamal Adwan Hospital is gone. One of the last doctors working there shares his story.

'We have called upon the world for protection for over 50 days but unfortunately there has been no response. I’m confounded by this world that claims to believe in humanity and democracy but does not respond. Not even the World Health Organization has any protection here.'
