Excited to share this new Tansley article from our lab!
We discuss how plants differentiate between different microsymbionts to ensure beneficial symbiosis outcomes, comparing nodulation and AM symbiosis.

Annual reminder: if you’ve been accepted to multiple graduate programs and are still deciding, please let the ones you’re definitely not going to know as soon as possible!

-Someone who got into his PhD off the waitlist the day after the deadline

By all means, if you're deciding, take the time you need. But if you're deciding between two places, and there are three others you've ruled out, let those three know as soon as possible, not once you've picked a school

You could make a huge difference to someone else's life

High-frequency biparental inheritance of plant mitochondria upon chilling stress and loss of a genome-degrading nuclease - Nature Plants Maternal inheritance of mitochondria breaks down in the cold when a mitochondrial DNA degrading nuclease is defective, resulting in biparental inheritance that can rescue mitochondrial mutations and g...

🌿🧬Our new story is out in @natplants.nature.com! Tobacco plants usually pass down their mitochondria maternally, but we show we can trigger paternal transmission of mitochondria at high levels & restore plant health in the offspring of mothers harboring defective mtDNA www.nature.com/articles/s41...

GitHub - lowrylab/WGCNA_agent Contribute to lowrylab/WGCNA_agent development by creating an account on GitHub.

Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) has been the go to program for analysis of gene expression modules for nearly two decades but it is a difficult to implement. To make it easier to use WGCNA, I used Codex to build a human in the loop agentic workflow. github.com/lowrylab/WGC...

Using data from Table1(*), here are the contributions of each discipline to bioRxiv over time.

Evolutionary biologists used to be leaders in preprint use, but were displaced, and now neuroscientists are by far the greatest contributers of preprints to bioRxiv

So when do authors preprint? Many do long before they submit to a journal (to get feedback to improve the work?); many submit around the same time (just want the work out?). Only a minority are submitting once the paper is under review [evidence against claims by some detractors]. 3/n

I am seeking a postdoc to join my group at UCLA -- ideally the candidate would have some experience in either population genetics or microbes/microbiome (computational background needed). We have a range of projects and are happy to tailer to your interests. Please dm/email me if interested.

Thanks for the invitation, Sunil! Very nice to be back. Also, it was 79 degrees in Riverside and Philly was like 0 degrees, so….yeah😂

Excited to share my latest work in @newphyt.bsky.social. Here, we used TurboID proximity labeling with CLAVATA receptors FEA3 and BAM1D in maize meristems to better understand the signaling pathways important for meristem regulation. #PlantScience
