Localized statistics decoding for quantum low-density parity-check codes - Nature Communications Quantum low-density parity-check (QLDPC) codes offer lower overhead than topological quantum error-correcting codes, but decoding remains a key challenge for scalable fault-tolerant quantum computing....

Working on LSD was fun! - Our paper on Localized statistics decoding (LSD) for qLDPC codes is now in print.
LSD is a highly parallelizable, reliability-guided inversion decoder that exploits the clustering of errors. Think of it as a parallel version of OSD.

How would you respond if your lab got destroyed by a missile?

I remember getting a $300k grant 10 years ago to perform non-abelian braiding in 2 years

It is funny, but it is also sad. "The people" want miracles from science, right now, and for free. If one is achieved, they move on immediately and just want more, different, fresh like distracted children.

Welcome to the Weizmann trapped-ions lab! Our group studies quantum physics using ultra cold trapped ions. When we say cold we mean very cold, as cold as it gets. We laser-cool our ions to a temperature of a few µK (a millionth of a degree ab...

Home | Save NSF Save NSF is a coalition of concerned scientists and allies who are working to save funding for scientific grants through the U.S. National Science Foundation. Our mission is to support the science...

On Friday I made my first-ever calls to congress to oppose funding cuts to NSF. It was super easy — it took just a couple minutes, and I read off a script provided by Save NSF (www.savensf.com). Afterwards, I felt good. The pervasive sense of powerlessness was held at bay, at least temporarily.(1/8)

Exclusive: NSF faces radical shake-up as officials abolish its 37 divisions Changes seen as a response to presidential directives on what research to fund

Exclusive: National Science Foundation staff were told today that the agency’s 37 divisions—across all eight directorates—are being abolished and the number of programs within those divisions will be drastically reduced.

But what is quantum computing? (Grover's Algorithm) YouTube video by 3Blue1Brown

Great explanation of the basics of quantum computing and Grover's algorithm by 3Blue1Brown. He also addresses the common misconception of "exponential parallelism".

Genuinely unclear, but many NSF staff have wondered if it is designed to impound funds and reduce the budget this FY, in preparation for extremely large cuts next year. If you pause funding long enough, you just won't be able to get it all out the door. Unused money helps justify a larger cut.
