April is full of insane stats but Sandy Alcantara averaging 8+ innings per start so far might be the winner.

Got up to 96 but done after 1.2. Couple breaking balls hit hard. Just didn't have his best stuff/control. Tough day to throw.

Sitting 91-94, not many strikes thus far. Cold day, hour delay, tough conditions.

Opening Day for AA/High-A/Low-A... But first:

I have watched a lot of minor league baseball the last few years... That's one of the worst challenges I can remember. There's going to be a learning curve.

I for one think that other sports should just follow Netflix's lead and live mic all the Wolves ant won't pass the ball to. Cut to Pete Alonso interviewing his henchman on second and eight.

Major pet peeve: The superimposed ads that distract from the action, particularly if there's a high degree of contrast. It's not the end of the world at SF since the ad is offset. Setups like Philly's, where the ball disappears or changes colors, are abominable.

Here's an article idea for myself: How the fuck did UCSB get and hang on to Bremner and Flora?

My Worst Report: Lessons Learned From the Field Even the worst reports can turn into a positive if they change your thinking or provide a valuable lesson along the way.

I wrote about a scouting lesson I only fully learned after writing one of my worst reports. This is a fun one: blogs.fangraphs.com/my-worst-rep...

What do you think the Tigers argument was during the arb hearing? "Yes, he won the Cy twice, and yes we've leaned him on like crazy, and yes he's broadly recognized as the best pitcher in the game... but did you know that in 2018 he had a start in college where he walked six guys in the first?!"

Parting thought: Boy TGA could be really good

They also continue to have a ton of hard throwers with round-down shape, control, or both. Historically, the coaching/PD group hasn't been able to max out on these guys and they both have a lot already and also added more in the draft.

Downsides: They are very light on bats. Most of the top positional guys are there because of their defensive value. It's good to be good up the middle but Rada/Denzer have big questions to answer at the plate and they're the only two potential impact position guys nearly there.

And then the defensive catchers. Quintero and Juan Flores are in different ways very, very good defensive catchers.

They also drafted a lot of interesting pitchers last year. The high school guys -- Slawinski, Gray, Mitchell especially -- all have upside and things to like.

Positives: Recent DSL classes have been promising. Several from last year's crop made the main section of the list. And then Marlon Quintero and Hayden Alvarez from the year before both feature prominently.

Los Angeles Angels Top 36 Prospects This is a below-average system. In part, that’s because the org keeps accelerating its first-round picks through the minors very quickly, but developmental issues also play a large role.

Toronto Blue Jays Top 40 Prospects This is a light system, particularly if you’ve mentally moved Trey Yesavage from the prospect bin to the big league roster, and none of the remaining top names are safe bets.

Getting after it today at FanGraphs. First, Blue Jays list went live today: blogs.fangraphs.com/toronto-blue...

Not a deep system, but a fun one with sleepers all over the place.

Perhaps. Very different players.

Wild card: Juneiker Caceres. Kid can hit. Don't think he's super projectable but if he can find a way to get to a little more power he could rise on this list.

3 months ago 1 0 0 0

Sleeper: Robert Arias. Great frame, chance to be a five-tool guy. Needs to get stronger but has bat-to-ball and CF foundation to be pretty good. Long way to go, excited to see what he does in A-ball.

Wow, Jaison Chourio looks low! We might be wrong about him. But I don't think he's proven he has a good approach yet, despite all the walks, and an approach in and of itself isn't a carrying tool anyway. I'd like to see him return to High-A, think he has work left to do there.

Anticipating a few questions, so: Yes, we considered the injury history with DeLauter. It's just such a good mix of hit and power that we had to go nuts on him.
