More than one man needs removing from office. They are all complicit. All evil. I do mean evil. All genocidaires. All monsters.

time for another edition of "our digital slop media is bad, and they often make you feel worse about our world"
604tv (which plays on negative emotion more than most sites) just put this out
I had never seen this claim before, which made me curious to know more
"History will judge-" let me stop you right fucking there, history doesn't do fucking shit, I'm a historian, let's be clear here: elected officials need to do their fucking jobs, right now, before it happens, or future historians will judge THEM. Everyone knows and knew who Trump was.
“It is beneath my dignity to let myself be run over by any trolley, and particularly this trolley, burdened as it is by a cape and a stupid hat.”
I wrote for Defector about boycotting Harry Potter, the ‘safe’, kindly face of anti-trans politics:

I appreciated this article by Michael Taggart, on the temptation to use some of these coding tools and the pitfalls, from the POV of an experienced software engineer.
This is why it's important to fight these issues collectively rather than at the individual level.

“’Human in the loop’ is necessary, but the process itself makes the loop stultifying, and encourages the human to take themselves out of the loop. That process is straight up dangerous. The temptation to let it rip is always there, and I didn't even have a boss pressuring.“

"You can’t persistently mislead children about social expectations and then punish them for believing you.
"Only, when it comes to autistic kids, obviously you can."

If you want more innovators, reduce class sizes, fully fund higher-ed, eliminate contingency, and stop trying to treat a public good as if it were a goddamned business.
"We expected protective paternalism to play a central role in explaining why some men perceive the tradwife movement positively... We were taken aback to discover that it was instead men’s overt sexism that played the most important role in their attitudes about the tradwife movement.”
Tabloid outlet has covered Republicans and Democrats relaxing at places like Disney World as shutdown drags on
if a leftist says he's anti-zionist because of the war crimes of a sovereign nation the times will suggest he is an anti-semite.
if a conservative says that he is "j-pilled" the times will say it's about foreign policy.
Author Steven Vickers wrote on Threads, "To confirm, this '100% AI generated' passage is the opening of Chapter 5 from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. I think authors are going to get screwed in these AI witch hunts."
I agree 100% with Steven Vickers that authors will be falsely accused of using AI in the coming years. In particular, authors like myself whose works were stolen to train AI systems are at risk. When we write in our own unique styles, AI trained on us will quite likely flag us as using AI.
From Global News Canada re: this budget: "The biggest winners are the Department of Finance (up $8.5 billion, or 5.7 per cent), Employment and Social Development ($5.7 billion, or 5.4 per cent) and the Department of National Defence ($5.3 billion, or 11.6 per cent)." globalnews.ca/news/1173746...
"most of those who spout it have no intention of shrinking the state. Rather their intent has been and continues to be to remake the state to do other things." (2/2)
Gilmore & Gilmore (2008), describing the logic of what they call the anti-state state: "The state is a burden, a threat. We must shrink the state and restore liberty and markets. Although no doubt there were and are some true believers in this libertarian-lite rant..." (1/2)
It's a bloodbath for science, health, immigration, Canada Post, and many many other services and supposed Canadian values.
EID MUBARAK TO MY MUSLIM BADDIES!!!!!!
Shout out to the sheep friends 💚
Scientists protested Harper in 2012. I was there. It was about similar cuts to government agencies and the undermining of information on climate. Carney's budget looks like it is at least as bad as anything Harper did.

The fact that many tech CEOs find LLMs extremely useful for their day-to-day work says more about what these CEOs bring to the table than it says about the capabilities of LLMs.
I have an autistic-people-don't-have-theory-of-mind joke but I don't know what you'd think of it
As someone who grew up in the Seattle area but lives elsewhere now, I literally describe Bellevue to ppl as "the best place to get run off the road by a corporate lawyer driving a hummer" & Kirkland as "Malibu, WA with COPS ON EVERY BLOCK" lmaoooo ☠️
KIRKLAND AND BELLEVUE ☠️
Reading comments like these in tandem with articles like the below makes for a pretty pure hit of rage
this is a public health catastrophe
one of the 150 people who died in January was under the age of 18.
25 people were over 60.

It's not widely known enough that the moment the UN formally recognized "genocide" as a phenomenon, Black Americans filed a petition charging the US with genocide against Black people. The conditions they describe have continued.

Images verified by Human Rights Watch show Israel fired white phosphorus in populated areas of southern Lebanon.
Lebanon says a half-million people displaced Lebanon said over a half-million people have been displaced in the week of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. The actual number is likely higher. Lebanon’s count of 517,000 refers to those who registered on the government’s online portal. Israel over the past week has called on residents in dozens of villages across southern Lebanon and the entirety of Beirut’s southern suburbs to evacuate. In Beirut, sheltering families crammed into schools, slept in cars or in open areas near the Mediterranean Sea, where some burned firewood to keep warm. Israel’s renewed offensive began last week after Hezbollah launched rockets toward northern Israel during the Iran war’s opening days.
also half a million new refugees in Lebanon alone
if you own the capital and you pay people wages to do labor and then you get to take all of the profits on top of the ceiling-capped wages you paid people then at what point along that highway did you miss the exit to stop calling him working class or whatever?
