Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.
ALL ROAD USERS.
What about painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.
For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

I haven’t seen this bop here yet.
This one comes up at least once a week at my house
I've seen people trying to defend it today by saying "No, no, I just use it to brainstorm, bounce ideas, I do the actual writing" and with all the kindness in the world I need to tell you: if there is a stage of writing you are not good at, you need to get good, not use the plagiarism machine.
My praise for Night Night Dawn by @jordyrosenberg.bsky.social cannot be overstated, especially the author's reading of the audiobook. A darkly hilarious portrait of a loathsome person at the end of her life, and she has *Takes.* The genius lies in the depth and beauty beneath all the bravado
This is genuinely a bombshell. All courthouse arrests should cease immediately. There should be a Congressional investigation & civil rights actions for every illegal abduction of immigrants trying to follow the rules and appear in court. (2/2)
I get singled out at the airport every time I fly. Like, for the last 20 years, without fail, even with children in tow. I do not want these tiresome interactions to be with people who will murder someone over a smile
Drone strikes in Haiti.
Drone strikes. In Haiti.
By private contractors.
They’re killing Haitians for private profit & the world barely pays attention.
The story of Haiti is the story America likes to tell about itself. Except there, it’s true. And the west has never stopped punishing Haiti for it

Why is Lyft covering up useful way-finding maps with ads? Find out in Gersh Kuntzman's latest episode of "Old Man Vertical."
If you liked this experiment, I published a full piece today in the same vein: a text that gets 100 years older with every section, from a modern blog post to a medieval chronicle.
It's a single story spanning 1000 years of English. See how far you get.

I don’t know who needs to hear Jesse Jackson leading the kids on Sesame Street in this beautiful call-and-response reminding them that every child is somebody, but here it is
On Nov. 16, a mental health counselor recorded in Kamilla’s medical records that her mother reported the girl had lost her appetite after being “served food that contained worms.” A week later, the couple said, children were told to gather in the gym for what they believed would be a Thanksgiving celebration. Excitement spread as families saw tables set with turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, they said. The children waited expectantly. But when a parent asked when the celebration would begin, Oksana said, staff told them the holiday meal was for employees, not detainees. The children, she said, watched despondently as the feast was packed away.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.
The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.
But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.
At least two dozen U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees and contractors have been charged with crimes since 2020 and the wrongdoing includes patterns of violence, sexual abuse and corruption, a review by The Associated Press found.
Amira is the 15th person, the sixth pedestrian, and the second child killed on the streets of New York City so far in 2026.
The City must recommit to Vision Zero, lowering speed limits and fully funding DOT.
Friends from Minneapolis reporting to me that things are at the point where folks are being hidden in other people's houses and we are in the "again" part of "never again" which the "never" was supposed to preclude
It's a cover spending the day on a boat drinking beer and fucking around with your friends + maybe getting dinner out of it
We, the employees of the NLRB, are calling on members of Congress to reject the Senate’s proposed funding deal unless it includes meaningful reforms for ICE and CBP’s operations.
Our Union has never endorsed a government shutdown before. But we believe we have no other choice.

judge: I think I'll just leave this big list of cases where the administration violated court orders over here
reporters: oh you know that's interesting because I was just looking for a big list of cases where the administration violated court orders
If you've given biometrics to TSA (Pre-Check and Global Entry members) and you plan to attend a protest, you should wear a medical mask.
Anyone who gives a dime to the Democratic Party right now is a fucking chump.
MINNESOTA — Mom goes outside to warm up her car, ICE grabs her: "Please, my car kids are all alone in the house!”
So nothing has changed and Homan was just to put a new face on the cruelty, got it

ICE are alllll over Harlem right now, 116 & Frederick Douglass, checking IDs and targeting the area’s African community. Multiple people have been detained.
Community members are advising folks to carry citizenship documents - or stay away if they are at risk

ICE is required by law to prepare a report for Congress on every in-custody death within 90 days. They missed one report last February. But since the death of Ismael Ayala-Uribe in September, they have stopped preparing ANY reports at all.
20 people have died in custody since then.
One human rights observer in Maine said agents followed her home, blocked off her street, and came to her door to say they know where she lives. Her children are now staying elsewhere, to keep them safe.
