I do not imagine this entices Tracy Fleury away from the very top levels of the game, no. But I like the xoxo

Big day for me, got to join @drewmagary.bsky.social and @davidjroth.bsky.social on the big pod. We had a real nice time and got into the weeds on all the curling stuff. And of course, nu-metal.

Women’s curling is as good and as important as men’s, and is treated as such by everyone, which is part of what makes curling such a great sport.

Thanks very much for the kind words!

World Curling has dropped the potential playoff charts. Rachel Homan is in with a win and out with a loss and can only play SWE or SUI in the SF. Brad Jacobs is guaranteed 2nd and in the SF plays NOR 50% of the time, ITA 25% of the time, and GBR 25% of the time

THE PANTS HAVE RETURNED

NORWAY HAS BROUGHT BACK THE PANTS TO HEAL THE SPORT IN A TIME OF NEED

It wasn’t just *that* they won, but how. Controlled both games and immediately capitalized on opposition mistakes. They had chances to put US and GB away and didn’t. No such issues today. And most importantly, Rachel looks locked in. The Sweden game now looms large

Reports of Rachel Homan’s demise were greatly exaggerated

Mostly the second one. Teams generally prefer a certain style of play and try to force their opponents into their style. You might know that certain teams don’t like to play against an aggressive style so you do that or whatever, but generally you wanna stick to your game plan.

Going to start charging $200/hour as emotional labour to explain what happened today to my non-curling friends

Nocturnal. Staying up for the 1 am game here, sleeping through the 6 am, and then waking up for the 11 am. Haha. And yes it’s content creation in other sports and never live.

So there’s going to be people online the next few days who try to convince you that the noise in the curling venue is distracting for the players and the players don’t want it. Don’t let them fool you; the players have been asking for this type of atmosphere for years

Players are often mic’ed up during games in other sports but you don’t hear that audio live. The clips come out after the fact and are heavily controlled as to what you hear

Women’s Draw 2:

-CHN is a win GB probably had to have
-both DEN and JPN showing their volatility in that game, both need more consistency or will be in trouble
-USA strategy to go all out for blank in 9 and never 2 was odd to me and it cost them
-gonna be a long week for ITA

Tried to hit and roll right beside theirs. Would've made it so if Brad hit it, he wouldn't have been shot. Might've had to play some kinda thin double off the outside of the stone on the button, or an angle run. He rolled too far, kicked the shooter down, and the rest is history

I've watched a bunch of Germany games over the last few years and that's the best I've ever seen them play. They're good but I'll be very surprised if they have a game better than that here

If you're an American fan, that would be the hope for sure. Danny's last should be a confidence builder

Draw 1:
-Classy win by GB
-Crowd will be a positive for Italy all week. I like their chances more now than I did before
-USA looked and played nervous
-that’ll be GER’s best game of the week and Canada weathered it. Awful strategic mistake on last shot cost them

He is a minor celeb in Canada, believe it or not. At curling events he signs more stuff and takes more pictures than almost anyone

Yeah I don’t think as a curling guy I really realized that but then heard last Olympics the two curling medals were GB’s only medals at the Games. Pretty wild
