Japan has done that many, many times.

Hell, Yamato's second movie had a pretty definitive ending (no spoilers, tho it's ancient history), but they still wanted to make more Yamato, so the TV adaptation of the film made changes.

It's very weird to see this happening in the West though.

From what I have heard and read....it's not that far removed from reality, generally speaking.

Obviously, it was meant to be at least partially idealized from the perspective of the young characters and the film isn't a documentary, but they did proper research for the period in many ways.

We'll see! It seems screenings have been sharply reduced, but the remaining ones are filling up quickly, which is a sign that positive word of mouth is spreading across Japanese users on social media.

https://x.com/34nobell/status/2032641389130035494...

It's interesting both of you tend to see Fujiko's role as sort of a drawback to the script...yet some Japanese consider it as part of the intended nuance.

All things considered, the film's financials may be weak, but it's nice to see there's thoughtful, passionate fans .

Shared Fantasy, the first sociological monograph about roleplaying games, is about a period when established players are dealing with a new wave of younger players with different priorities. The period is 1978.

They deserve a lot of credit for the transforming spider ninja concept, which the 3D action scenes also pulled off nicely.

I didn't hate the Akito anime, but I felt like they had decent ideas for the cast and settings yet the narrative itself is what was somewhat lacking in the end.

Suzaku thinks he is a big hero and dresses up like one, but the point is he's definitely not. Yes, Lelouch has a lot of hubris and makes a bunch of mistakes, silly and not, rather than being perfectly calculating. I liked that sort of contrast.

Only one volume left to go! Imagine telling someone this back in 1989, when Viz first tried releasing the Fist manga.

Or in the mid-90s, when Viz tried for a second time.

Or in the early 00s, when Gutsoon tried for a third time.

Man, if only more manga were given this many tries in English...

Depersonalization on Steam "May all stories find their best endings." "Depersonalization" is an anthology-style game featuring standalone chapters and diverse story genres. We continuously collect and create...

Oh dang, I didn't notice the news until now, but Depersonalization - a big Chinese indie hybrid RPG based on tabletop Call of Cthulhu - got its english translation overhaul a couple weeks back.

I'd been holding off on playing it because I'd heard the initial translation was pretty wonky.

I don't know if it helps to follow the game, but I did that as well.

I hope you do get to see the cool endings sooner rather than later, since a few of the conclusions are definitely busywork but a surprising number are pretty neat!

I've only got the first of those, but I want to read more.

I've been shouting about this game since the day it came out. Genuinely one of the best side-scrolling brawlers EVER. Incredible depth means that even on the ultra-highest difficulty (where every enemy moves like a hummingbird and stings like a truck) it's possible to 1cc it consistently.

First up: I previewed Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound for @ign.com and it rules.

Final Fantasy Tactics (Creative Studio 3), out Sept 30th

First and arguably also the third one work alright, but this middle film does try to cover way too much and so it has to use off-screen handwaving more than what I'd prefer.

New Review: Mitsuteru Yokoyama's Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Part 1)

The first TV anime adaptation of Romance was actually an adaptation of an adaptation, as it was based on Mitsuteru Yokoyama's 60-volume magnum opus

It may not always be a looker, but the first 22 eps of this show are damn good

Alright, it's looking like the ultimate answer to "does Hundred Line really have 100 distinct endings?" is "mostly true", because the game's script is indeed a giant monster of very different routes and scenarios.

The review consensus is positive too, with a few rather minor caveats.

#SuperRobotWars Y releases Aug 28
Writing a summary but most important thing they said is planning for next game started right after 30 released, but they wanted to change to a new engine first so that's why it took so long, future games after Y won't take that long

Got an update for you about Tokimeki Memorial's Sega Saturn. The patch's team has been slowly working on the English translation and is making essentially a help wanted ad. The current patch crashes a lot and we could use people with hacking and debugging experience. Let us know!

These are all extremely different games, naturally, but I like to think there is a common thread of unusual ambition and letting the player embrace continuing even with sub-optimal decisions, rather than expecting you to save and reload.
