The Darkstalkers series wouldn't be as special as it is if it weren't for its arcade roots. It's truly one of those games that culminates everything great about arcade gaming!
It's pleasure to to have Hiro illustrate this for us!

A screenshot of a white-on-black terminal depicting a 19x19 go board in ascii graphics, with empty grid intersections as periods, and black and white as Os and #s
It’s absolutely incredible that one of the largest Japanese-run Go servers, which has been running since 1992, is still accessed entirely via Telnet. And while most players use GUI clients that use Telnet under the hood, you can still connect manually and get ASCII graphics streamed to you

that has been my experience with GnG resurrection, i don't know if arthur is *actually* slower than in ghouls but it sure *feels* that way
I did a speedrun of Glass Joe on the newly discovered prototype of Punch Out! It doesn't play any audio though, so I ended up doing a complete restoration of the audio using very advanced tech.
Please hear the tech you won't regret the tech.

Okay so you might see this video with the audio muted. Now imagine how the music must sound like. I urge you to unmute and listen to what it's actually like because I guarantee you you're not prepared for it.
I make video game because I want to make story that is also toy

You know that a lot of arcade design elements (lives + permadeath, scoring, strict timers, loops, etc.) are valuable because younger roguelite devs who barely played arcade games still recreate them semi-independently. Just because they fill a lot of very unique gameplay niches

frankly it makes it harder to recommend games like elemental gearbolt on their US version. most of the changes to difficulty in that version i actually agree, but even if I were to explain why, the knowledge of financially-motivated meddling *will* make players install that "unworking designs" patch
in even older console games there's also "anti-renting tech" and "localization" (sometimes explicitely said by the devs/publisher); in games whose difficulty have been meddled with one or the other, their difficulty *will* be disqualified as unfair garbo meant to make you buy the game to finish it
to add to this (i agree with everything here so far), i think there is also a small vocal pond of players that will decry *hard games* in general, decrying anything that isn't dark souls and doesn't have some kind of "artistic narrative value" to difficulty or whatever
this shitpost appeared to me in a daydream and i had to stop everything i was doing to make it (flashing lights warning)
if one were to make a multiplat game that strictly defines turn speed, how can they release it on PC without PC gamers causing possibly real-life riots? i think console players are accomodated easier because it's all limited anyway, but i've never found a fully limited mouse movement game in my life
Your brain: do I hear an encore? You, in bed "shut the fuck up, holy hell" Brain " Right about now it's time to rock with the bickity Buck Bumble"
WIP sneak peek of the first level and how the game is looking so far. Lots of stuff is still subject to changes
A heavily datamoshed jpeg of a notefield. Except that's the game itself doing this.
oh god, the shaders, they BURN!
reading this and immediately thinking about dark souls series and influenced by, but i feel like pure dodge-counter type games are this almost by nature. are there things these can do to alleviate this? (like, in a way that fans would not riot online lol)
first rapid brogue win \o/ a month of in-and-out playing
like, (in these games but also in general) why do we loot? why do we need leveling? why do we need to choose between +3.9 doodly damage and -12.4 diddly recovering time? why are skill trees? why money and consumables? why anything?
