Look at Labour’s acts of environmental vandalism and ask: did I vote for this? | George Monbiot Our rivers, our wildlife, the air we breathe: the government is sacrificing all to the insatiable god of GDP – and mocking our objections, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Worse, and not only on green issues
@georgemonbiot.bsky.social
"After 14 years of environmental vandalism, it might have seemed impossible for Labour to offer anything but improvement. But on green issues, this government is worse than the Tories."

By golly, Labour couldn't bark up a more wrong Brexit tree if they tried.

Strongly out of tune with 80% of their 2024 voters. Extraordinary mistake. That's substantially more than necessary to lose the 2029 GE.

But hey ho, they'd rather stick their necks in the sand.

I've always loved the fact that the word 'sneeze' is the result of a historical accident. The original form, in the Middle Ages, was 'fnese', but someone mistook the 'f' for the long medieval 's' and wrote down 'sn-' instead.

Fneezing sounds much more like a proper, nasal sneeze.

#PMQs is an embarrassment.
Do the MPs, whose salaries we pay, really think we want to hear these childish taunts and subsequent hilarity every week?
Is this just a ridiculous unfunny comedy show now, while people in the real world suffer poverty and hardship?

Most previously long term Labour voters who are appalled at Starmer’s government (like me) would not touch Reform with a barge pole. Of course we will go to the Greens or Libdems.

There are no adults in the room: there’s barely a room. This is politics at warp speed, and we know who’s benefiting | Marina Hyde Fiscal crisis, corruption claims, shenanigans and legal threats. This feels like the week old-style politics sat on a grenade, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde

I get sick of seeing posts saying "The grown ups are in charge now".
@MarinaHyde is right here when she says of British politics at the moment:

Staggeringly misleading & irresponsible article by Express online. Neither I nor my site've ever said that. It's a perversion of our "earn under £35k & it's worth checking a benefits calc to see if you're missing out on owt" into dangerous, trite clickbait.

A lot of horses have already escaped... but there's still a very numerous herd that will be kept in by this measure.
Remember, we won't reach the annual peak of "flu season" for another 5-6 weeks... we're still at the start of it.

Can't understand why they didn't do it sooner though.

Keir Starmer among least leftwing Labour MPs, study finds Kemi Badenoch is judged to be to the right of Tories, and Lib Dems’ Ed Davey further left than Starmer

Starmer "is less leftwing than almost all of his 401 Labour colleagues, according to the research by Chris Hanretty..."
Why did Starmer (and Reeves) choose to stand for Labour when they clearly do not espouse real Labour Party values? A mere vehicle to power...
