Forgot my headphones for my commute on a day where I have a new album I really want to give a first listen.

Currently on a train somewhere south of Ideal.

American friends - when you get a beer at a bar over there, how big is the glass?

I had always known that the US measure of a pint is different to the UK measure, but hadn't realised until today that it is 20% smaller. Wild.

Rewatching Friday Night Lights on my commute over the last couple of weeks has been a real treat. It’s not a perfect show, but the good episodes are truly excellent.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.

Even with a 10 point limit there are some busted plans. With 20, looping Timetwisters looks interesting

Fastbond not on the list may prove important for the mana vault/mana crypt/hurkyls recall plan so that you can save points to use on Braingeyser rather than moxen, while still having access to coloured mana

Happy ‘Beginning of Easter eggs on sale’ day to all those who celebrate.

While I’m sympathetic to those who want to lay hands on cool Japanese language alt art cards in Secrets of Strixhaven, I’m kind of glad they won’t show up in non Japanese play boosters - I like my opponents and I to be able to read all our cards, and intend to be drafting a fair bit.

I’d go Black and Blanco.

Might end up being the kooky rare I use elsewhere rather than the powerful Old Fashioned or E Martini, but I like the upside if it works out, and don’t trust it to wheel.

Jim might be my favourite person I’ve never met. It’s him, Shakira or Nick Cage.

I do typically keep it to one per deck. Obligatory massive thankyou to @jimtsf.bsky.social for helping me get hold of a set while I was in difficult times. They have provided much joy.

I have a policy that every time a Sheldon card appears in a commander game I’m playing, I toast to Sheldon.

I like that Prismari has a sick bass.

I really like this land cycle for commander. The tiniest baby step toward a card that is better in later seat position, and very potent in general. Likely just a dual land from turn 3 onwards - I hope they get gradually more and more available.

While I’m yet to be a quiver owner, I like the sentiment of measuring decks in quivers.

I effectively have one quiver of all timer decks (minimal changes for seasoning) and one of speculative/in active flux decks (yet to earn a permanent place/nice deck box).

And a cEDH deck.

I spent much of yesterday mentally repeating ‘I am really not in the mood for April Fools Day’, but knowing that if I uttered it aloud, I would become its prime target.

How is pineapple on pizza such an ideological battleground while BBQ sauce on pizza skates by?

If you have any Magecraft trigger, then casting Reverberate on a spell will make a copy of Reverberate, which can copy the Reverberate still on the stack ad infinitum.

More sinister though, Cackling Counterpart
makes more and more Tyrants, until you Flick a Coin and the world ends.

Nice little start to your season :)

Commander FNM is a thing for a lot of strores and would be sanctioned if run through eventlink.

Some stores might want more sanctioned commander to help boost play metrics. The line in the sand isn't 'Commander is fine' for stores, it's how much they want things sanctioned.

Commander FNM is a thing for a lot of stores, and would be sanctioned if run as such through eventlink.

Some stores might want more sanctioned commander to help boost their numbers, and any sanctioned commander run through eventlink doesn’t allow proxies.

Given that losing sanctioning means no prereleases, which are among the better earners for stores, I can totally see stores getting twitchy about the proxy culture in their building.

My thesis is that Magic cards are good for world building but bad at telling specific stories.

How obvious is it who the main characters are in LotR from the Magic set, and is that an issue? Is it cool to just walk around in that world, having adventures that may be tangental to the book?

I wonder, if you handed a full Universes Beyond set to someone entirely unfamiliar with the source material, what that person might be able to tell you about the story/setting upon which it's based.

I am just one opinion though, and thankfully not the only one. I want to better understand the positions of those who love RS and want it to stay.

What do you think?

3 weeks ago 3 0 2 0

The shock of bans after a long (IMO over-long) spell of no changes, with little communication to signal concern beforehand, caused huge rucktions in the format. Banning RS in that way would have sucked.

I think we're in a better place where bans shouldn't be as suprising now, making a ban viable.

There's the old meme of 'the best time to do something was ages ago, and the second best time is now', which kind of applies to RS. I do think it's been a pain in multiplayer for ages, but the implication of the meme, that it has always been ripe for action, is not spot on.

Based just off brackets 3-4, I am not a fan of RS to the point I believe it banworthy, and at bracket 5 it's more complicated. I'm sympathetic to folks not wanting to change decks/lose value, and to the power vacuum it leaving would create, but think it's worth it.

For cEDH, it is clearly very powerful, and the pillar of farm strategies, but it has hit a point where it makes enough games about it that to a casual observer it wouldn't be unreasonable to say 'cEDH is all about Rhystic'.

When one card negatively impacts choices to play a format, that's bad.

My position:

RS makes games it shows up in slower and less fun. It creates arguments at tables (often deflected from the RS player).

While there is some skill expression in when to pay or not, and talking to others about the same, that doesn't feel like valuable or good skill expression.

Sam Black has been talking about Rhystic Study being banworthy in Commander, and I will echo that I think it is also a worthy ban, and have done for a while.

It feels pretty clear cut to me logically, but for the fact that a swathe of folks have the opposite opinion.

I would like to hear more.
