In addition to addressing the market, this seems like a potential opportunity to learn from the past impacts of urban & agricultural expansion to develop a more sustainable framework for the future. I just hope the red tape being cut isn't biophysical assessments & good-faith ecological planning

I'm hopeful for this, but I'm wondering what considerations are in place for co-habitation with wildlife and supporting the biodiversity & ecosystems of previously undeveloped lands?
(Hedge rows/wildlife corridors, species-appropriate habitats, native plant species, vegetative buffers, etc?)

(For context, the story is based on Tolkien's lore, but focuses on Helm Hammerhand's (the last of Rohan's first line of kings) only daughter, who, unlike her two brothers, was never officially given a name or fate.)

I loved the detail of Éowyn (Miranda Otto) being the narrator, telling the story of a fellow shieldmaiden whom history had forgotten.

Now that I've read some of the reviews in earnest, many of the lowest ratings among them make me wonder if some of those critics' opinions would have been different if the protagonist had been male.

I finally watched The War of the Rohirrim last night and began to tear up within the first few seconds of the opening scene. I wasn't sure what to expect because of the mixed reviews, but it was pretty much everything I'd wanted from a movie about Rohan. The LOTR horse girl movie of my dreams.

There are a lot of "I'm not sexist but I don't like this type of feminism" / "it's trying to fix Tolkien's misogyny" / "it's not in the spirit of Tolkien" type arguments that conveniently forget Éowyn exists or ignore the parallels between her story and Héra's.

title of post: “Horses learn more effectively when experiencing positive emotions”

The goal of this study was to explore how emotions impact learning in horses. 34 riding horses from ages 3 to 21 were studied; half of the horses were given Synthetic Equine Appeasing Hormone (EAP) while the other half were not. Then, researchers analyzed the horses’ cognition and emotions in a reward-based learning task in order to determine if emotion affects learning ability.

Results showed that horses given the equine appeasing hormone (EAP) who had a more positive mental state also performed better on the learning task, giving more correct responses than horses not given EAP who had a more negative mental state. The EAP group was correct 93% of the time, while the non-EAP/placebo group was only correct 58% of the time.

The task seemed to be equally physiologically arousing for horses given the appeasing hormone and horses not given the hormone. Emotional state did not seem to have an effect on heart rate or heart rate variability. Both groups showed a significant increase in baseline heart rate during the learning task, indicating some physiological arousal.
