Posts by Barbara Teruggi (She/Her)
We sat down with Vanessa Formicola to go behind the scenes of the Architecture track. In an era of rapid automation the conversation has shifted. Itโs no longer about building systems. Itโs about how we evolve them, the ethics of AI integration, & the "exciting complexity" of modern software design
We interviewed Java Champion & Track Lead @ixchelruiz.bsky.social to discuss why the Build & Deploy track is the "missing link" for devs, architects & product managers
"Build & Deploy encompasses everything that is not about the programming languages, but how we build the systems." - Ixchel
Literally counting the days! Can't believe I will be coming back for the third year! What a journey it has been, and the level of excitement is off the charts! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐ฉโ๐โจ๏ธ๐

CFP BONUS TIPS!
Differentiate your proposal
๐ธ Make sure your proposal stands on its own
๐ธ Don't send multiple proposals on similar subjects
Provide supporting materials
๐ธ Send a link to a talk you've done before
๐ธ Or shoot a short video of you talking about your topic
โก๏ธ devoxxuk26.cfp.dev
Pro tip for everyone submitting to tech conferences.
Include a video of a previous talk or create one pitching your talk.
Delivery is just as important as the topic.
Don't assume the program committee is familiar with you. You need to convince the PC that your submission is of sufficient quality.
CFP Tip 10: Test it with others
๐ธ Ask friends and colleagues to review your proposal
๐ธ Be open to making changes & welcome suggestions
๐ธ Ensure whoever you choose to review your submission will give honest feedback
Submit here before 9th January โก๏ธ devoxxuk26.cfp.dev
CFP Tip 9: Product pitches = rejection
๐ธ Please don't send us sales pitches
๐ธ Your product might be amazing but this isn't the right place for it
๐ธ Dev tools & demos are welcome but keep it balanced & informative
๐ธ Share knowledge, not a sales deck
Good luck! Submit here โก๏ธ devoxxuk26.cfp.dev
CFP Tip 8: Check your categories
๐ธ Make sure you select the right track, session type & event when you submit
๐ธ Incorrect categorisation can result in submissions getting missed
๐ธ When you're ready, hit send! Don't leave your proposal in drafts ๐
Submit here โก๏ธ devoxxuk26.cfp.dev
Have you submitted your proposal to @devoxx.uk yet? ๐ฆ Over here!! ๐
CFP Tip 7: Don't upset anyone
๐ธKeep your proposals clean & respectful
๐ธ Profanities, inflammatory or sexualised language don't belong here
๐ธ If you're unsure if something in your proposal crosses the line, leave it out
๐ธ No negativity or hate here please
๐๏ธ 6&7 May | โน๏ธ devoxx.co.uk
CFP tip 5: Use AI with caution
๐ธUse AI as a tool not the author
๐ธReviewers get tired of reading similar-sounding
submissions
๐ธAI is good for spell-checking & grammar
๐ธFact-check anything AI generates for you
๐๏ธ 6&7 May | devoxx.co.uk
CFP Tip 4: the first two sentences are vital!
๐ธKeep your title focused
๐ธPeople skim-read the title of an abstract to choose which sessions to go to
๐ธThis is your shop window - make your opening sentences engaging & clear

Our CFP is open now - time to get involved ๐
Continuing our CFP Tips series. Number 3: Stick to the Point
๐ธAvoid rambling and using lots of buzzwords
๐ธMake it relevant to the target audience
๐ธPresent the problem, why itโs important, and the solution
๐ธOutline why attendees will benefit from your talk
๐๏ธ 6&7 May | โน๏ธ devoxx.co.uk
CFP Tip 2: The talk title
๐ธFirst impressions matter so make it interesting, snappy and relevant
๐ธ Ensure the title reflects the content of your talk
๐ธMake it stand out, especially if itโs on a topic that is covered often
๐ธBe cautious about using humour
๐๏ธ 6&7 May | โน๏ธ devoxx.co.uk
CFP Tip 1: Be the knowledge sharer
๐ธFocus on a topic you know well and are comfortable with
๐ธAvoid new and shiny tech just because you think it's trending
๐ธMake sure your proposed subject offers clear benefits to the audience
Come back tomorrow for Tip 2...
