I love sharing numbers so here's a video of how much we spent to make Mythmatch.
I break it down by time, discipline, and funding source.

Oh amazing 👏 make sure to check out @adhdingames.bsky.social and then I'll potentially see you in a webinar 😁
That's awesome 🤩
Going for a mix of games I think are great for me and games I think are great as a whole 😁
1️⃣ Outer Wilds
2️⃣ Rocket League
3️⃣ VVVVVV
4️⃣ Metal Gear Solid 4
5️⃣ Assassin's Creed II
6️⃣ Stardew Valley
7️⃣ Skyrim
8️⃣ Minecraft
9️⃣ Portal
🔟 LoZ: Breath of the Wild
Game mechanics can be simplified to:
Question > Knowledge > Action > Output
And it's key to make sure each step is both informed and impactful.
There's no point asking a player to do something if they don't know why (question vs knowledge) nor them doing something to see nothing change
yes! knitting is ALSO programming, btw
Discovered there isn't an override in Unity for Transform.GetSiblingIndex() that accounts for disabled objects, so made one 😁 Useful for animations that run in sequence (e.g. list population) 💪

A solar eclipse viewed from the Moon’s point of view with the solar corona visible behind it and the stars and planets in the background of space.
THE SOLAR ECLIPSE SEEN FROM THE MOON BY ARTEMIS II!!!
THEY WERE THE FIRST HUMANS TO HAVE THIS VIEW!!
This is called the Endowed Progress Effect, where when people feel they have made some progress towards a goal then they will become more committed towards continued effort towards achieving the goal. Example being a loyalty card with 2/10 stamps feels like more progress than one with 0/8 🔥
"When you're 5% complete on a task, you think about it less than when you're 95% complete on a task (when it becomes all you can think about"
A note from the Psychology Of Games that is absolutely vital to game design. Players care deeply about finishing something IF they've nearly finished it!

**Cough**And leave a 5 star review**Cough**
Similar note to saying "why doesn't later level armour in a game just be the same armour but with better stats?", the more a player can visually connect with the act of "levelling up" the better it feels and the longer that feeling of satisfaction will last before it becomes normalised again
Physical UX in action, hard to make level up feel satisfying without something to really mark it. Moving to the different dice and having it available compared to other players still rolling the lesser dice would make the level up more tangible. Plus it means selling more dice 😂
Basically "My Summer Car" in space? Sign me up, sounds like a plan 💪
This is back open; if you're part of a (massive) layoff in the game industry you can request a product of mine for free. It's not much, but it might help you in your journey ahead. 🫂

Photo of the game Bib Goes Home. A small projector on a Mechano stand is doing interactive projection mapping on the pages of a cardboard pop-up book.
Screenshot of the game Far From Noise. A Citroen 2CV is balanced precariously on the edge of a cliff. Text bubbles: "(honk honk) HELLOOO?"
A screenshot of the game Rhell. A young mage stands in front of some bookshelves and a bed, looking at a spectrral form above.

Let the water flow with shades of red now
Arrows black out all the light
Death is riding into town with armor
They've come to grant you your rights 👑
Which is fair, it's up to you then really. You can learn a lot about your game by making small similar games and bringing the lessons across, or equally iterate on your game and test theories through iteration. You'll learn a lot either way 🤘
Which is great for understanding the game space, but if you're goal is to build your intuition of design, you would need to try a variety of systems, scopes, and genres. You'd know a lot more about card games if you've tried to build 10 vs 1 as it were 🙌
"Make many games to build your intuition as a games designer, so you can kill off the bad ideas more quickly"
A great point by @raphkoster.bsky.social and a reminder that the best way to become a better game designer is to make a lot of games and develop a sense of what will work and what will fail
Grabbing these as a reference for ... something 👀
There's very little stability across the board as it stands, but there are a few semblances of strategies emerging for small/indie studios that are looking to have a little consistency 🙌
There's still time to grab something from the Games from Ireland Steam event, if you want to pick up some cool Irish games!
Well, due to travel bullshit, I'm going to be a day late to con, had to book a new ticket, and will need to get a rental car to drive into Canada. Around $700 more dollars out of pocket.
So I've extended this "flash" sale, lol. Thank you again, for everyone's help.
