Evidence that academics have been complaining about service roles for about 3000 years...

Soon we're going to have movies where the hero's montage is not them going through arcane and brutal physical training so they can win the fight, but them sitting down and scribbling their own thoughts with a pencil grasped in both hands

I shouldn't be shocked, but I'm still always brought up short to realize how many people think "civility" means "white people speaking in relatively calm voices" no matter what vile shit they say.

Yeah I blinked and the kids were normal again

Hmmm, I wonder what's "ever so slightly too old for pogs, but basically by two years"

Congrats, Dipshit, You’re a Dad Now Listen up, soup for brains. Yesterday, you were just a man. But today, a doctor snipped the umbilical cord off an angry, gray alien with your name ...

Oh, shit, this is perfect

I've also encountered great care here, so I don't want everyone who works in trans care in Finland to feel tarred with the same brush. Kaltiala is her own person.

Some people at the clinics here still prioritise binary, normative gender expression, or consider "if you transition you'll probably look trans" as a negative outcome, and she's a big part of that policing. She writes op-eds in the Finnish press that take ages to unfuck.

I transitioned in Finland. I don't doubt that Kaltiala has some expertise in her field of psych, but she's been like a ghoulish Final Boss for a lot of people here, and is clearly enjoying the international attention she gets for being GC and a professional with the trans clinics.

Thinking of every academic who has had to apply for grants to cover the cost of requesting and licensing images for their books with zero assistance from a publisher

There was a great tiff in the press in December 2006 as Lordi were invited to the Finnish presidential ball - an annual formal televised affair, and they said they'd only show up in costume as they wanted to remain anonymous. President Tarja Halonen wasn't having it. Great headlines.

remember this; try

if the things some people are trying look useless or stupid to you maybe they are, find something that seems smart. and keep an eye on whether or not the shit other people are trying works.

Great! Also, if your levels are, say 600 but you feel like crap, and someone else is at 400 and feels fine, that's totally possible. It's quite individual how testosterone levels actually affect a person's mood and all the other things hormones do.

Too low dose and I end up feeling blue, low self-esteem and energy, cranky. A higher dose increases risk of cholesterol issues, heart issues. So I try to find the lowest happy dose. Dunno if that helps you at all. But starting with a low dose is pretty common I think?

I take 1000mg in nebido every 12 weeks or so. I used to do 250 every 2 weeks. Before that, a sachet of gel a day at either 30 or 50mg; before that, half a gel packet. I obviously need to make up a lot more than most cis guys.

I would wager that the goal would be to see where your current levels are now and then see if a correction helps. The range is pretty wide, around 300-900 ng/dL. For reference, cis women produce about 15-70. People like me (trans guys) are kept within the typical male range.

Though I should add the caveat: "hot mess"

Oh, and pre-surgery and early days: choose structured natural fabrics. Heavy cotton t shirt instead of stretch fabric. Linens. They don't cling to your body and are much better at helping you create a shape. I could even skip a binder, and I'm not skinny, because dark linen shirts did the job.

I'm a trans guy and Derek, I can tell you my wardrobe has improved a huge amount simply by reading your threads. The "dress for your body type" stuff never worked well for me; your threads about putting together an intentional look and for getting a good fit - that's 99% of the game.

Trump is concentrating power. A key faction of judges supports the idea | Jan-Werner Müller The ‘unitary executive’ theory – backed by some conservative lawyers – is largely bogus. But it could wreak havoc on democracy

'As the Stanford political scientist Adam Bonica has shown, rather than pursuing efficiency, Trump and Musk are simply taking a chainsaw to whatever institution is considered “liberal” and assists the worst-off. The result will be an executive all at once unchained, chaotic, and corrupt.'

scores of pissed off Mormon CIA agents who just got canned are ideologically cross-pollinating with platoons of fired trans FBI agents. we are on the verge of new types of politics our ancestors could only dream about

One of the most fascinating things I remember from the museum of Paris was going through the whole exhibit on the revolutionary period and seeing basically nothing about actual working class people. All the revolutionaries seemed to be pretty well heeled and well off.
